Zip files

Post by williams22 »

Can somebody please explain (in simple terms) what are zipp files and how to open/use them. I ask this as most of the Yahoo groups store the files this way and I can not seem to open them properly. Any help given is greatly appreciated.

You need a program like the free one at (other useful stuff in the miscellaneous section under Lizards Lair)
to open the zip file

In simple terms they are a collection of images placed in 1 file

No idea how this works as I just download and open

Hia..!

This is how I view them , and I may be completely wrong, and stand to be corrected!

Space on the likes of Yahoo Groups is limited. Pictures can take up a load of said space, so the info that makes them up is compressed, thus allowing more items to be posted in this way.
The only thing is, they need to be un-compressed, or unzipped open to view them!

To open these Zip files, get yourself a little programme called WinZip. You can download it from numerous sites if you do a search for it on say Google. You can either buy ( no thanks) a full version, but I just went for a free evaluation version which does fine!!

Once you've got WinZip or whatever, simply click on the zip file and it will download into your pc, when you are then prompted to open it with WinZip. All files downloaded this wasy will be stored in a folder called unzipped.

Hope this is of some use!

We all start blind as bats

Just remember after downloading any free programs of which there are many to run a program like adaware from or .

Most free programs come with unwanted extras which will slow your connection speed down and fill your email addy with spam

Very true Magoo

When you consider that a Friend of mine who fixes computers still uses a computer from 1995 you know something isn't right.Knowledge is power in this field.I saw the difference in performance when our office went from windows 95 to windows 98-slowed down by 50 percent because of all the useless junk in the registry

Its amazing how much better your computer runs once a tech has cleared out all the crap that the makers stuff into the registry
