By and large I would agree with most points made thus far. While I contend
that people enjoy looking and wanking at porn - much of it on free sites -
the actual production side, for a line producer/director (as opposed to a Jim
Slip owning his own site) is depressing indeed.
One can blame the free tube sites but they are only part of the problem. I
would say, as Jim Slip, says, if starting a website make it as unique as
possible....and ideally think internationally. Brit porn is largely introverted.
Companies such as Harmony, Bluebird and Jim Slip, all with international
appeal, stand to do better in the long term.
The vast, absolutely vast, number of porn sites worldwide, added to mags
still existing and even dvds (yes, some people still buy them Jim, just spend
an hour in a Soho sexshop or note how every major US video distributor,
despite their whines, is still in business) proves that guys are not wanking
less or looking at less porn. But, for those on the production side, the sheer
volume of filth available to wank over, has turned a wide river into a
sluggish millpond.

DiSanto's points

Post by Paul Taylor »

Hey,
thought I would jump in here too.

First of all I would like to say, these events have got me shoots, as Terry puts it face time is a very valuable thing. So for smaller companies like me, I have to say they are very good for business.

I can see and respect DiSanto's point about these events. Not being seen dead at one doesn't mean he thinks anything is wrong with them or that they don't do good, just he doesn't fancy them himself fair enough, of his cup of tea. He didn't say they are pointless he just doesn't wish to attend himself.

Im surprised how modest DiSanto is. Not to say I expected you to be big headed or anything but I am surprised that there is only 3 people that work at Killergram wow. I thought they were big production house considering the content they dish out and how well they are known

Thats only one more than me, there me, producer/performer/editor and there's scarlet Grey my camera lady and she does a lot of the admin/paper work and thats it and I have no where near the success you have. Things are getting better for me in these tough times, but it could be better.

I do agree you just have to shoot and get on with it, thats what we do, but funds come into it too. If Killergram are shooting a lot and have 9 months in the bag and can update every day, then you must be making it to spend it. Remember the average shoot costs anywhere from ?250-?400 depending on whats involved for the girl and then there's the stud. Plus location/studio and if any makeup artists are needed etc.

I also agree that keeping your costs down ( while still paying fair) is also good business sense, but there is no way I can update every day no way, just not enough money or content.

DiSanto did you have money up front to put into the business when you started out or did you get a loan? Sorry but you make it sound so reachable what you have achieved but money is the thing to be able to afford it all.

I am always looking for more contacts, and am seeking a better company to take over from who runs the site now, as I think I need to find a webmaster that knows how to promote my style of site, I am making money now which has only got me thinking that that someone that knows the niche my site is aimed at then that to me is the way to go, nothing wrong with bettering yourself and never settling for less.

I spend a lot of time skyping on business calls these days, as the producing side is all I know so its finding people in the right areas. But I am a long way away from shooting enough to update every day fucking hell I wish.

Very interesting posts though, interesting reading everyones views.

Be interesting to hear back from DiSanto

Hi Paul
Good to see that you are busy shooting and investing in UK talent:)

My post was to outline the fact that although in the UK we have limited talent resources in terms of the number of performers etc, we do in fact have a unique opportunity to reach the US market with a common language etc.
Look for example at Brazzers, NA and how often they like to feature Brit girls and guys in their productions. (its not like they don't have a ton of their own domestic performers)
We have access to those very same people right here at home. So lets keep them busy and recognise our own strengths!!
Of course I could hop over to Budapest etc and shoot but KG productions are in the main, all about home grown talent. (Although we do shoot a few foreign girls)

Our company started with very little capital, however we did have one distinct advantage and thats why everyone refers to her as The Lady Boss.
My wife, Anjali had a very unique place in porn back in 2002 and as an Indian girl shooting porn for her own content only, we did make a very profitable business very early on.

I remember back then how we would look enviously at the likes of great performers like Isabel Ice and Alicia Rhodes, creating great profiles in the US shooting for the big companies.

However we stuck to our guns and re-invested everything apart from living expenses into making our own content and then we went on to investing in other UK girls. On the way Anjali helped to start off the careers of male performers such as Shaft, Keiran Lee, Andy Mann, Jez Kane etc.

Over time we made some good contacts and we have worked in conjunction with them to build up a brand.

We have made lots of mistakes on the way but always kept our overheads low. We have paid the same rate for studio shoots since 2004 for the girls and over 400 girls have now shot for us.

Yes some have asked for more money but we have always stuck to what we can afford. The way we see it, a girl can either do 10 studio shoots for us and walk away with ?5'000 plus travel or hold out for more money that larger companies may pay.

So as you asked Paul, we were very lucky to have Anjali to start with. We re-inversted in content and didn't shoot for the bigger companies, back then until the brand was up and running. We have a hard working ethic. We always want to learn new editing and shooting techniques and do all the production tasks in house. Finally we have made good international alliances to get our content onto the web, to DVD and to broadcast.

Its a pretty unexciting story to be frank but when all said and done its all about simply getting on with he job at hand.

I was you the best of success in your future projects.

All the best

DiSanto thanks for your reply, I guess I don't have the contacts yet, I am speaking to a US company who seem to pull in profit and they approached me about my site. Don't know why as there are millions of others, so of course I am asking questions and being cautious incase its one of the mistakes I make along the way. So you have to ask questions and make sure the deal is right, but it could mean my content moves from who is running it now to a company in the USA who has over 20 years experience, making my content appear on their 36th site. We will see

Thanks for your best wishes. You are a gent

All the best to you too

Paul
