Print magazines

Post by Elliot James »

How many of you visit your newsagent's shop once a month and still buy men's magazines? If yes, what titles do you generally buy?

James about 10 years ago a famous adult publisher here conducted it's own survey and it's conclusion was that all 15 of it's own titles put together sold less than Gardeners Monthly. I jokingly (but actually seriously) said to one of their staff 'yeah and the people that buy the fucking rags are us photographers so we can get bloody paid for our published work'. He nodded in agreement !

They are no longer in business. Says it all really.

I wouldn't count out print just yet, Dave. But the lack of replies shows that the majority are web and cable viewers, and some DVD.

I wouldn't be to sure about that James. I spoke to Sam today at Big Top (an old friend of Mr Fox) and he said sales of dvd's are terrible.
I for one gave up with mags about 5 years ago because they became to difficult to deal with - unless you want to commission me of course ??

I must confesss i have bought one magazine in 20 minths and that was because it had someone i liked. I'm a bit fussy these days lol. But yes the net has indeed have what i want more than magazines these days. Though t the net doesn't have that unique feel that you get from a magazine. Some thing you can hold ana smell if you know what i mean.

I think the internet must be slowly killing off the magazine, although some newsagents still have a multitude of titles on their top shelf. I used to buy Mens World religiously when Jo Guest was their regular model but these days its only the occasional purchase (usually when someone like Katie k is adorning the cover).

I tend to pick up back issues via the auction sites rather than buy mags (of which there don't seem to be as many to choose from now). I think the last mag I bought from a newsagents was the 40th Anniversary issue of Mayfair back in 2005.

The internet probably is the main factor in killing off a few mags. I've also noticed that a few long-running publications such as Rustler, Whitehouse, Lovebirds & Playbirds seem to have vanished. Anyone out there know if GSP etc just suddenly stopped publishing them due to poor sales?

The last mag i brought was a couple of years back it had my fave model Jo Guest in it was a uk mag.

I went to my local paper shop yestaday and on the top shelf they only had about 6 mens mags on sale, one time there used to be a round 30 to 40 + mens mags for sale.
