I always thought that the vagina couldn't stretch as much 'lengthways' as the cervex is only 11cm long on average. The ass can take more 'length' because the colon is longer. However I'm sceptical on 'width' because the sphincter muscle around the anus is pretty small. It will stretch like all muscles, but is liable to tear.

I guess most girls that do anal tear the sphincter muscle, and through regular anal sex the muscle repairs itself with a greater circumference. This allows greater 'width' to the anus without pain, but the muscle is probably weaker due to the fact that the fibres are spread more thinly.
