For some "unknown reason", certain channels get shit loads of money from UK subscribers putting out the crap they currently do. So I guess for them, there is no need to change or even press for it, some idiot is always going to subscribe every day.

Now can you imaging the newspaper headlines:

"Ofcon threaten to remove Playboy License for showing Hardcore"

Fuck me I'd be on the phone and subscibing immediately - think of all that extra revenue they'd get. Not in their interests you say?

Jacques,

It was you who said it wasn't in their interests, and to answer your question

No , on reflection I don't think being taken to court, reported on in the national press for showing hardcore on TV illegally and ultimately being shut down is really what Playboy would consider good business sense

I saw again, we live in a society where certain members of the government still want Page 3 banned and think Loaded, FHM, Front etc are "disgusting"

And you think they will allow hardcore on TV ????

Of course you are right Arginald Valleywater(!)

But at the risk of sounding like a walking, talking cliche - we live in a so-called 'nanny state', where it would seem that most people have become politically apathetic and are quite happy to let Politicians make all our decisions for us.

The 60's and 70's and in some part, even the 80's, were times of major political upheaval in the UK - people got off their backsides and protested because we had a passion for personal freedom.

Not anymore though, we've become content to just put up and shut up.

But in all honesty, I really don't think, even if we were still fired-up politically, that we'd really want to go on a protest march for our right to watch HC porn on Cable and Satellite!!

Peace.

PG.

They could quite easily approach and obtain a broadcast licence from one of the many EU memberstates excluding Eire then uplink all their programming from one of the many uplink centres in these countries who will only be too happy to take on their business.

As far as managing and distribution this could continue as normal within the UK so long as programming output does not fall foul of that currently available on an R18 classified work without breaking any domestic laws. Call centre operations, subscription services even payment tansactions could all be completed lawfully from within the UK.

Proof, if any more were needed, that the UK’s so–called ‘adult channels’ will do nothing to put an end to Ofcom censorship. Why should subscribers, who have supported these channels since 2000, in the hope that they would stand up to the broadcast censor, pay for legal action and fines? Are you seriously suggesting that it is beyond the wit, and financial resources, of UK ‘adult channels’ to club together and take Ofcom to judicial review? No, they would rather keep using dubious advertising etc. to fleece the naive into thinking they are going to get anything other than softcore; as long as enough people are fooled, they make enough money to keep them happy. To add insult to injury, they now start attacking those who, quite rightly, complain about their output; unbelievable!

And what about calling Ofcom’s bluff? They claimed that continued R18 censorship was due to inadequate ‘security’; why not propose some improvements and see what their response is? At the very least, it may proof that ‘security’ is purely an excuse, and that in reality, they have no (and never had) any intention of ending R18 censorship; This could then be used during judicial review against Ofcom?

If people actually want softcore, good luck to them, but for those who don’t, and still labour under the misapprehension the UK ‘adult channels’ will do anything other meekly accept Ofcom censorship, it is time to go for the Mainland European option. People complain about the costs involved, hassle etc. but you could use the money saved from cancelling subscriptions to UK channels, and put that towards it (if you subscribe to more than one, you could cover the cost with this alone). Once installed, you have waved goodbye to UK censorship forever, and have a free choice of whichever HC channel(s) you wish. Also, R18, while infinitely superior to softcore, is still potentially censored – just look at the BBFC website to see how much censorship still exists. Going European gives the added advantage of getting completely uncensored material; At least until the UK channels moan to Ofcom, who then proscribe the channel etc. rather than standing up to broadcast censorship, but we’re going round in circles here…

So, surprisingly, I agree with Karina Currie; for those who moan about the UK ‘adult channels’, do something about it! I vote for cancelling your subs and going European !wink!

Going European you say? Hot Chilli TV has started at 12.360 GHz horizontal on Hotbird.

Erotic girl solo during the day, hardcore uncensored late. And it's free to air, have fun!

So why don't you all watch it quietly and stop bleating on here about Live XXX etc ? If hotbird is so amazing, why do you all care what Live XXX does?

Because of the way it's (miss) sold to the consumer.

I'll keep bleating on because they keep bleating on about how they can't do this or that because "the law does not allow it", well that turns out the be a complete load of crap.......

I agree cancel your subs and go European. I would also suggest complaining to Ofcom. It won't get them to change their policy overnight but it's important that they are constantly reminded that the citizens and consumers in who's interests they are suposed to be acting find their activities objectionable.

or

"We understand that people may have concerns about programmes on TV or radio. It is important that we know audiences? opinions."

IPTV (internet tv) services are starting to appear and are likely to grow rapidly in popularity now that fast broadband connections are increasingly common. This will create a major head ache for Ofcom. Why subscribe to bowlderised Ofcom content when you can what R18 rated content via IPTV? At some point the wheels are going to come off the regulatory bus.
