mail order from abroad from now on then!
no more letters to MPs!
I have been a supporter of british sex shops in the past, but now they can stuff it.
I cant see why a production company would want to stop r18 on tv as I would have thought that the amount of new r18 material required would go through the roof considering the amount of 18 cert being shown at present
so production companies get off your asses and make some films for the new standards when they come along..not try and put a in a spoiler based on rubbish/lies trying to keep the status quo.
stupity at its finest talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

quote from www.hotrodproductions.co.uk:

"Hot Rod believes that adopting a mainstream approach to branding, marketing and selling adult product will help develop a serious industry in the UK, which need not be perceived as sleazy or wayward. Yet two years on from the effective legalisation of hardcore, the mainstream still refuses to embrace the lucrative business of selling real sex on video / DVD. Crazy, bearing in mind the US industry in 2002 turned over $4.02 billion in adult rental & sales."

I would subscribe to a Euro broadcasted channel but have 2 major problems. One, where my flat is situated is not suitable, and secondly my lease does not allow moveable dishes. Many other viewers have similar restrictions so I am keen on HC to be on air via the Sky system.

While not necessarily agreeing with them I think any reasonable person can understand where they are coming from - they (like any trade body) have to act in the best interests of their members.

Before anyone suggests otherwise, no I am not a member and I suspect they probably hate people like me more than anyone!!! Also despite the potential adverse effect it could have to my business, I actually support the introduction of R18 on TV wholeheartedly - anything we can do to "desleaze" the industry in this country then so much the better!!

Ofcom will also be able to see where they are coming from and the AITA argument will have about as much impact as Mc Donald?s arguing the case that KFC adverts should be banned from broadcasting on the grounds that fatty food is bad for children (and they want to increase their sales).

The AITA will loose credibility with Ofcom as well as many potential supporters (such as myself) and there is every prospect that the Mediawatchers will take advantage of the situation to argue that R18 is so dangerous that even sex shop owners think it should be banned in some cases. Of course it is then only a short step to say that R18 is in fact so dangerous that it shouldn?t really be available anywhere (not even from sex shops).

Whilst I can understand the frustration and anger at the unfair regulation of sex shops, this move is cutting off your nose to spite your face. It would seem likely that in the short term at least R18 on TV would boost sex shop sales as hardcore would get a lot of press. Medium term there is no reason to suppose that Sex shops would be damaged as video rental is capable of existing alongside conventional broadcasting and shop sold DVD. Longer term everyone needs to watch out as even broadcasters are likely to feel the effects of Video On Demand via the Internet within 5 years.
