What happened to the supposed HIV+ diagnosis in the UK industry? The topic seems to have dropped off the radar.

Why has there been no input from those people involved with the BAIHA?

Or are people just going to ignore it and hope it goes away?

Seems to be the case, apparently only those at risk ( of losing a few bob)are the higher echelon who don't think it concerns us lowly beings....really wasn't aware that hiv was that selective, thank christ us neathandrals are imune!!!

It appears there has been a outbreak of common sense.

A spokesman from BAIHA made a statement to forumies that the people involved and all at danger new, the BAIHA decided to act under the guidines layed down by the professional doctors and clinic staff. Despite being advise it was better to tell everyone regardless even if they had never had a shag in 10 years it was their right to know. It appears this matter will end with as little pain for the genuine people involved. And then the clinic will advise BAIHA any further details if neccisary.

When there was an outbreak of HIV in the States, it was all over the media and the porn industry announced that it was closing down for a quarantine period. Performers were instructed not to work for 90 days (or whatever it was) so they knew what the score was.

Over here when there is a scare the industry closes ranks and says "Don't worry, you don't need to know. All that know need to know." That's not good enough. I know of three models who have cancelled jobs or had work cancelled because of the scare. They DIDN'T know what to do because information was strictly rationed. Shouldn't they be informed? I know of a shoot for a major company that was cancelled today (Wed) when one of the models informed the director of the scare - he didn't know nor, for that matter, did Michael Ross who supplies many models to hardcore shoots.

Stop being so patronising, telling us that everything is under control - we expect it of Blair et al not of sensible people in this industry.

Someone - Jim, Jason, whoever, should post firm guidelines on this site and also on other message boards that hardcore models read. If there is no need for a quarantine period then say so but don't say "Everyone who needs to know knows" because, plainly, they don't!

I'm not involved in any of this, but I do know a thing or two about it...

The main and major difference with the US outbreak is AIM. Sharon Mitchell's organisation conduct most of the porn star HIV and STD tests in the US, and performers are aware that anyone testing positive will have their details discussed with producers and film companies as well as anyone they may have shot with.

Over here, performers are tested at private or NHS facilities which have to respect confidentiality laws, and therefore no legal compunction to tell BAIHA anything at all about an individual's medical status.

If at some point in the future, the BAIHA set up their own testing facilities, then that situation may change and more people may be informed.

Ultimately, the hysteria in the US has achieved nothing except making Darren James look like the villain of the piece, which he is not. More damagingly, in some people's opinion, it would now seem that at some point next year, California is going to legislate to ensure that condoms are used in all adult productions made in that State. They're already levying fines against companies, and the law is only around six months away.

But my point is...they don't know they are not in danger because all the info such as it is has come out in dribs and drabs. How can a major company be unaware of it and then cancel a shoot?

then at least people would not have to scramble through loads of posts to find the facts,

Very true indeed, the clinic involved (or anybody else) are NOT allowed by law to publicise details of the unfortunate person who tested positive, however they do have a professional duty to trace and contact any individuals who may have had contact, both indirectly and directly, and as previous posts have confirmed this is being done. Any potential contacts will also of course have been told about their obligations regarding potential sexual partners too.

Obviously theres a lot more at stake than just livelihoods here, but creating a media spectacle through this board will not help. Producers and photographers know that they have a legal duty of care towards models and aren't going to take any chances as the potential penalties involved are a lot stronger than an Obscene Publications Act case. The possible breakdown of the industry following media speculation, leading to action by plod et al would lead to a lot less safeguards if production went underground.

Certainly be very careful out there folks (certificates etc etc), but try and sleep easier as what can be done is being done.
