Kim,
I feel the same way about the treatment of magazines by newsagents such as W H Smiths over FHM, Maxim and Mayfair.
It seem's okay to let kids look through magazines which as I guy I find offensive and very nasty towards women whilst to magazines which admit they are full of naked women get placed in plastic wrappers.
I'd much rather read Playboy to FHM any day, the articles are much better and don't treat the readers like complete idiots.

Are you seriously saying that the likes of FHM, Loaded and Maxim have that attitude towards women?
Sure they're juvenile and in the case of Loaded a pisspoor representation of what the mag was originally about, but offensive and nasty to women?
Can't see it myself.

I'm just glad that I re-read Harry's comments properly! For a minute I thought he was suggesting that Mayfair was guilty of treating women badly! He wasn't.
As it happens, to an extent I agree with him. It seems that it's perfectly okay for a kid to pick up a copy of Bizarre and come face to face with all manner of pictorial violence, but anything (healthily) sexual is taboo.
The UK is in danger of replicating the USA. And how many complaints did Janet Jackson's right nork generate back in January? A world where sex is deemed unacceptable, but taking a whole street out with an Apache gunship and then printing the corpse pictures afterwards is seen as entertainment.
And for the record, Mayfair is the only mainstream top shelf title which doesn't print 'pink' shots of the girls, making us one of the most couple-friendly titles, too. Rumours of a house makeover special issue are, however, untrue.

You're making some kind of assumption here - which I find intriguing. Would you care to elaborate on it? I.e. the suggestion that 'pink shots' are not couple friendly, and presumably, that 'none pink shots? are couple friendly. Where did you pick this idea up and what's the logic behind it?

In this context Harry, don't you mean 'wimmin?'
You?re right about Playboy vs. FHM. I bough a few of those lads mags to see what it was all about. I found them to be total un-readable bollocks. I couldn't make head nor tale of them (Loaded was the worst.) As you say they were treating their audience like braying idiots - the Jackass generation of lairy 18 - 30 year old males. The thing is, not all 18-30 year olds are idiots. The annoying thing is that they all have to pretend that they are to be perceived as 'cool' or 'fun.'
They?re all a set of cynical money grabbing twats (Lads mag publishers) along with the tabloid press they?re responsible for dragging culture down to the very lowest common denominator - it's they who are partly responsible for 'Big Brother' '50 Cent,' 'Faleraki' 'There Something About Mary' 'Scream Part Umpteen' and birds copying the crap non-style of those de-sexualized, hacked-off hair blondes, on the covers of their naff magazines.

"Children could still watch it."
"Aah, that old chestnut. Suffer the poor children eh?"
Yeah, what a load of old bollocks, hey? If we didn't as a whole subscribe to that bullshit then reactionaries, loonies, and bastards wouldn't be able to invoke 'the kiddies' whenever they wanted to stop you doing anything they didn?t like, or possibly, to spy on you to make sure you weren?t threatening the status quo. Or maybe to spy on you to facilitate taking most of your hard earned wedge off you, on pain of incarceration, and spending it on thoroughly undeserving causes.
Regarding kiddie winkies seeing anything that is ?wrong? - who defines ?wrong?? What criteria do they use? And who are ?they? to say what?s ?wrong?? Is sex as a general concept ?wrong? or is it just a very normal and very natural part of the human condition? And if it is normal and natural why must kiddie winkies be ?protected? from knowledge and notion of it?

Re: Jackass, StevieO e.t.c
Sorry for the confusion in my posting.
Should have clarified the magazines which newsagents such as Smith's and others find suitable to sell to anyone.
Can't understand why Loaded, FHM, Nuts, etc aren't placed in bags as they contain numerous nude shoots and some very stupid & offensive articles whilst magazines such as Mayfair, Escort, etc which openly admit they are titilation get put in bags.
I'd rather be caught with a copy of Mayfair than Loaded any day!

Re: Jackass, StevieO e.t.c
That's really very sick! Whether it's MTV or 18 Cert or whatever. So is SALO, 18 Cert and it's full of crap like that! Not my cup of tea at all. I ouldn't want to say where I think people who get hard-ons by this kind of stuff ought to go but it's not sex whatever else it may be!
Re: Jackass, StevieO e.t.c
So let's get this straight, in a forum where things like teen sex, bukkake and Essex pub orgies are enthused about the Jackass films and magazines such as FHM and Loaded are deemed offensive and stupid? Hmmm.....I'm having a tough time getting my head around this.
