hi - don't think this is an off-topic discussion idea, but if so, sorry! (in which case I imagine it'll get moved by a moderator)
was wondering if anyone with experience of the adult industry had any suggestions on getting into it, as a man... Am sure it's fairly easy for many women, but where would a guy start?
I have looked at the links on the miscellaneous page, but they don't seem 100% up-to-date and aren't completely helpful (although appreciated all the same)
I guess the obvious thing is an HIV certificate and to get some pics ready - but who would you send them to? Do the more well known of the British producers (e.g. Ben Dover etc etc) do male auditions or just use mates?
Just curious (maybe with a bit of interest in taking it further!)
Look forward to hearing everyone's opinions on this!!
Cheers

Production or Performer???
Your subject wording conflicts with the subsequent wording of the post.
Assuming it's PERFORMING advice you're after, allow me to give you my piece based on my (rather limited) experience.
I started in the performing game in May this year. In that short period of time I have had the great pleasure to feature with some of the biggest names in the industry - but I'm still not what I'd call "established" and I still don't find it easy to find opportunities - perhaps I'm only kidding myse;f that I can cut it as a stud!
The HIV and STI screening and the obtaining of a certificate is absolutely the priority - without it you're not going to get anywhere and nobody will take you seriously. In fact, even WITH the certs, you'll still have a job to get taken seriously.
The next step is twofold - yes to photographs and at the same time there isa need to raise your profile.
Now, you can do this by blindly contacting producers - I did this and it got me my first ever break (THANK YOU JOHN MASON!) and/or you can contact some of the girls with websites and offer yourself for web content shoots.
To me, someone very much on the fringe of the industry, it does seem like a "who you know" industry. It's about REPUTATION, it's about networking.
The absolute first place to start is the cert - without it you wont be seen as genuine and you're not going to get a shoot until you get one anyway!
Hope that helps. If it does and you have any other questions, feel free to email me jack@jackhorny.com.

Opps! You're right - subject should've been performing and not production!
Thanks for the advice!

Ben holds auditions. Contact him at ben@ben-dover.com. But obviously you have to pay to audition - it's a few hundred quid I think - to cover the cost of hiring the girl, Ben's time, etc. That's the point where most people fluster off going "I'm not going to pay, that's terrible" proving themselves to be time-wasters with no confidence they are up to the job and the shocking belief that the UK porn industry is naive enough to sort them out with a free fuck apropos nothing.
Alterantively, given that new female flesh is what drives the industry, your best bet would probably be to bring a sexy new girl along with you as a package - she says she will only do her first scene with you etc - and you can both use that scene (if it goes well) as your springboard into the industry.

Hi Guys,
Ive been looking at this forum for a while now and was wondering the same as pEater.Id come up with the same conclusions as have already been pointed out but one question Ive got is what is the best and most annonymous way of gaining the all important hiv cert?obviously I wouldnt want to go to my gp,can you just walk into a Genitourinary clinic and get one and if so how long does it take. Also once you have it,how long does the industry recognise it before it needs renewing?
Is the industry that critical of how a guy looks,i.e is it all down to how you can perform or do they want a certain "look",im not asking this cos Im a minger by the way, just interested.
cheers
Mike.

Mike,
SOME NHS trusts/hospitals will issue you with a certificate a price... All GUM clinics will give you the test for free - but they will not issue you with a certificate at no cost. Some NHS clinics will not issue you with a cert at ANY cost!
The best bet is to phone you local GUM clinic (or not so local as the case may be) and explain why you want a certificate. They will then tell you whether they're willing to issue ir not and at what price.
Any private hospital or clinic will issue you with a cert and the cost varies from ?30 upwards to around ?150 if you opt for full STI testing - which is preferred and I think should be mandatory.
There are a couple of clinics in London that are frequently used by people in the industry- Regents park and Medilink (I think it's Medi-link but I might be wrong) - there is also the Indigo clinic (NHS) which issue free HIV certs (and full STI testing) on specific days. **The mentioning of this clinic frequently creates uproar amongst those that believe performers should pay for their tests**
As for anonymity - you must provide ID at the time of testing. The cert needs to be validated by the production of ID - the reason is obvious... without that validation by photo ID (drivers licence/passport) what is to stop me getting the certificate in your name and giving it to you! So don't think you can obtain a cert without identifying yourself - it's just not possible.
As for duration of validity - 3 months is the industry standard. I have come across girls who wont work with a guy holding a cert more than a month old, but that's rare.
The important point to bear in mind is that YOU are responsible for the integrity of that certificate. You must not do anything to compromise it - i.e. no unprotected sex otherwise you've rendered it invalid... It's an industry that relies very much on trust and if you aren't going to guard the integrity of your certificte then please don't think about bothering!
As for what the industry wants from a male - I'm probably the wrong guy to ask... I'm not exactly established on the scene and performing opportunities are few and far between. Quite simply though - I suppose it simply boils down to an ability to perform... That's basically the beginning, middle and end of it all - no doubt film star good looks, a well-muscled, intricately defined body and a huge cock would help, but it's PERFORMANCE that counts!
If you require contact numbers for the clinics mentioned, please email me and I will let you have the numbers.
