It seems from reading the posts here that too much material is not breaking through beyond the usual few hundred (is that optimistic?) copies to the usual people
So whats going wrong?
In the US porn has broken through to the mass market pretty successfully but here its still stuck with a slightly seedy image (maybe im a hypocrite here seeing as im off to Fayes bukkakee later!)
Unless of course we look at those "education" videos from a few years ago. Were they successful because of novelty or because they wer nicely done?
(always thought one of those expanded into swinging would be a seller)
Or is it the access to the material thats the problem?
Im convinced that there are thousands out there who are quite partial to a bit of porn and im not just talking guys (ive always been suprised at how much girls love good stuff)
opinions please....
new markets? (and hi Faye)
Re: new markets? (and hi Faye)

They were successful because at that time there was very little real porn about, and yes, they were successful because they were "nicely done." Naughty, but nice. Hence they could be brought into the public consciousness by the likes of 'The Currant Bun' or even The Mail who could then put on their tut-tutting stage act of shock or moral indignation knowing full well that this was pretty respectable, mildly sexy, mildly titillating stuff. Obviously erotic videos being brought to the attention of millions in visually sex-starved times would guarantee humongous sales.
But modern movies like 'Extreme Bukkake, Gapping Ass Butt Reamers, Part Umpteen' could never even be mentioned in mainstream papers as they are beyond the pale. From a cultural and mainstream publishing point of view it's not sexy, it's not erotic, it's not aesthetically pleasing. In short, it's not nice. The minority who dig it only do so when they are on a hormone crazed high. When they look back in the cold light of day they sometimes think to themselves "Yuk! How could I have done that?" I speak from experience here.

Access to material is no problem at all now.
"Im convinced that there are thousands out there who are quite partial to a bit of porn and im not just talking guys (ive always been suprised at how much girls love good stuff)"
Yes, there are thousands who are partial to a bit of porn. Problem is they've now had their fill, but the banqueting table is still heaving with untouched porno dishes of every flavour.
If you make a porno movie with the usual unappealing suspects and then pop up and announce "Hey, I've got a porn movie for sale with fucking and sucking in it." you will be met by a tidal wave of indifference from the porn buying public. If you are selling direct you will only move a handful of copies. It's only those who know what porno buttons to press in their clientele that can still move hundreds of copies of a title by selling direct.
If you were to go down the route of certification and distribution you might be able to move thousands of copies, but at such a low price that you might eventually, after much hard work, only end up only getting your money back.
Sorry to put a dampener on your obvious enthusiasm but it's best to be realistic at the outset.
Dibble.
