Now you mention it, it does sound both patronising and not a little insulting.......I mean, Nigella Lawson could be (loosely) described as a 'housewife'- and so could Nora Batty, and Thatcher made much of her 'housewifely' characteristics (when she wasn't breaking the Cabinet's collective balls).
Which do they mean?

Without risking the dreaded expunging wrath of the mods. so not mentioning any names I can think of some girls on this data base who are, in the proper sense, housewives.
