What is required to start in the business?

Hi all,

Can anyone help with what is actually required to start in the adult business, from a 'company owner/investor' perspective? I'm thinking there must be people like me who

a) Love the business
b) Have a decent amount of money to get started
c) Have a pretty good business brain
d) Would be happy to do no more than break even, or maybe make a relatively small loss if the experience is good fun

What is required is presumably the cash to put up a site (including payment infrastructure), pay the talent, somewhere to film, anything else?

First watch the top adult movies on the tube sites to see what popular, then pick a subject or niche which stands a chance against what you have seen and honestly think can I do that. Get a lot of material pics and films shot as cheap as you can and start an adult work profile which can earn you 500 a month or more if done right, it's a free platform that works for everyone. If after a while you find the material you make is selling well then and only then think about a paid site. Stay clear of sharks making offers that sound to good to be true as everyone is struggling at the moment and why would they want to help you anyway ?

Marketing and monetisation.

Lots of options but no silver bullet, and all hard graft.

If working at the scale you imply I'd def look at content tracking, hashing and joining ACIUF (who are doing great things cutting off pirates from Paypal et al).

This is the reason I am starting http://www.adultXfund.com the worlds first Crowdfunding platform for the adult industry. Investors can get involved with projects they like the look of and take a stake in that company.

There must also be companies out there that are looking for investment, get you pitch up on http://www.adultXfund.com and get it seen.

I think you should ask yourself honestly why you want to be in the business?

Is it to make money? Or get laid? Or a mix of both?

If its a bit of both then you'll have a lot of fun losing a lot of money

Where to start, a lot of people think that porn is all fun, frolics and fucking but its just like any other business if you want to get into it seriously.

If your just after a bit of fun and trying to cover your cost then, as Kim said, shoot content then put it up on AW and make money from there.

If you want to get into adult more seriously then firstly have a good think about what you type of site you want to do, specifically niche and micro niche it as much as possible. Next get a shitload of content shot, build a site, add a good cms, add a biller and thats the easy bit done.

Lastly spend countless hours a day promoting, pushing and getting your site seen by as many people as possible and hope they like what they see enough to pay money for a subscription. The amount of people who build sites then dont know how to bring traffic into it is staggering, if people dont know its there then you cant earn money from it.

Once you have done all that then you have a chance of making some money but believe me its not as easy as it sounds.

Thanks for all your replies I really appreciate it. I have 'lurked' on here a fair while and am always impressed with how eager people are to help each other out with info, so thanks. Lots to think about!

With the pointlessness that is ATVOD making it very difficult to run a UK based porn site, for the moment the A/W and Clips route would probably be the best.
