Camcorder or Canon 5D mark 2

I am looking to replace my Canon XL1 mini-dv camcorder and I was wondering if I would be better getting a Canon 5D mark 2 camera rather than a new camcorder and use the 5D for shooting my HD video as well as my stills.

Do any of you guys use a Canon 5D Mark 2 for video ?

If so can you let me have your opinion of the results please.

Regards

Gerry.

The canon 5d can overheat a lot...

just a headsup!

I continued using my canon xm2 the other day, even with choice of a hd, just saying.

Thanks guys. I am a bit surprised that it overheated given that it was built to the job but I may now go for the 7D and a separate hd camcorder.

To be fair to the DSLR manufacturers, they built the cameras for stills and added video as an aftethought. It was meant to be an extra gimmick to attract a few extra sales. Instead it's become a minor phenomonon.

DSLR's can produce great looking images, but it's up to the operator to get them (of course) and it depends what you're aiming for?

For arty and high end they're great, for run around gonzo shoots, maybe not so much?

Prolost is another good source of info; http://prolost.com/
