Is Porn being killed by Piracy ?

Had a look through the net the other day to see what was out there and you know it couyld be a hell of a place for a freeloader indeed. Join one of the file serve type companies and then you find nearly most of the mainstream porn out there newly released material too and quite a bit of the british side so not restricted to american.

How does the industry tackle this and how would a way round this be workable and effective. If its not then it could very well be the death of porn - The internet brought it out in the open and made it more availiable and then now its getting in and endangering its very existance.

How could it be policed and how effective can file sharing be applied to manage the digital rights of the material.

Could the key not be in having a unique key decided by the processor identification ? something unique that can ensure that the media can only be played on a PC that has been enabled. It would be useless on any other PC? Yes it would limit the usage but would it be too severe ?

The film industry and music industry is blighted by the likes of knock off nigel but on a bigger scale - the copy to legal ration being smaller than what exists with porn - Id say it is more rife at present within the porn industry.

Well to say I disagree with PronBytes would probably be the biggest under statement ever...

But to answer the OP question would take several paragraphs of response and I am just about to run out the door alas... but if I get time later I will pipe in with my 2 cents...

The problem with that is the only ads you can run along with porn tend to lead to another porn or adult related site of sorts, so someone has to purchase something to make it work !wink!

Looking at how to make money from porn - the porn itself is easy to copy and distribute but how do you stop that ? People dont like to spend if they get for free - if you were so inclined you could in effect get your porn fix without paying a penny. There is just way to much out there so doing it differently is the only way that I can see a future for porn. If you can crack that then you can get back to making money.
Ive daubbled but its been for my own use and fun I guess a guy with a camera being the main aspect of my involvement. I can say Ive met some really nice people and have made some good friends. Looked at how to make money but well its just to difficult at present. If only there was a way to manage the distribution and have some form of control in place to prevent unauthenticated distribution.

How I would love to make money on this and expand and have a little fun at the same time, although id be too shy to be in the scenes myself lol.

The industry is not being killed by piracy or free content but life is being made difficult by it.

1. Free content is all around but you need to use the places that display free content for your free content with built in advert or watermark, sure generates good converting traffic.

2. Now piracy is a different kettle of fish this happens when paying members of your websites believe it is their duty to share your members area with the rest of the world, they do this by sharing their username and password with password sites and secondly downloading your content and uploading it to fileshare sites. I deal with these by monitoring my site usage statistics and any unusual trends from members i change passwords and also Google my site names to discover where my content is for free and then serve DMCA notices on the Filesharers.

Its all part of my working week seeking out and destroying the thieves and pirates and hijacking the free peddlers to use for my own gain. A much different game to 2002 when i started by things evolve and you must evolve with them. This is still a good business but you need to think on your feet at all times.

The recession is killing the industry not the pirates, they have always been there long before porn was legal in the UK.
When we sold our bits in the Loot years before the internet the pirates where busy then & have just evolved with the rest of us, the internet & present economy have caused the serious grief we are facing & yes as annoying as the pirates are they can't take sole blame.
We tell fellow producers to just keep afloat & don't overspend whilst times are lean, this is not the first time porn as faced a crisis as we had this shit when the internet first fetched down the price of films & how much you could earn from a shoot to a silly level & we recovered then & will do again.
