New venture - So who can you trust ?
Re: New venture - So who can you trust ?
Who can you trust ?
Short answer...
Probably no-one...
So what can you do ?
Well, provided that you HAVE actually thought of a 'new' idea...
Provided your idea REALLY IS ORIGINAL...
You can do this...
What you need to do, is to write down all the specific things which make your idea unique.
What makes it stand out from other sites ?
What makes your idea any different from someone else?s ?
What specific marketing do you intend to use ?
Put in as many details as you can possibly think of...
Then, when your sure you?ve covered all of the above,
Print out TWO copies of it, and then send both of the copy?s,
(separately) to yourself, via registered post.
Make sure when they arrive you sign for them...
Then you put the two letters, UNOPENED, somewhere safe...
You are now free to talk with anyone... about your idea.
You can even post on the BGAFD...
If anyone then steals your idea, you have got a dated, sealed envelope, which will prove you thought of it first.
Then, (and provided that your idea was sufficiently unique enough in the first place) you have proof that you thought of it first...
Proof in a format, which is admissible in a court of law...
See? easy

(The second copy, is simply a backup)

How about a website where the models haven't all been shaved to look
like ten year olds ie models with pubic hair for men who aren't closet
pedophiles.

Re: New venture - So who can you trust ?
Thats part of bieng/staying in business Elton, but if you have a idea that you think will work, stick with it, have the courage of your convictions, if it works, even moderatly, great,if it sinks, at least you had a go, the one thing you really need to do- stay positive, allway,s.

Re: New venture - So who can you trust ?
I believe this method is used by authors pitching to Hollywood studios.
Unfortunately some people have taken the practice to extremes, bombarding producers with every idea under the sun. When, by the law of averages, a similar production is made, song is written etc etc, up pops the wannabe author waving said dated and unopened letter. I understand that producers now return all unsolicited proposals, in case ideas they already have could be claimed by others.
And, of course, even if you have the idea first and someone does rip it off, you've got to prove that they did it. Courts, lawyers bills etc etc, got to be a real earner to make it worthwhile.
If you're talking to people then get them agree to treat the idea as confidential. The wording should say something like "these ideas/concepts are shown to you in confidence and may not be discussed with any other party without our permission". Once again not watertight but might help - you'll still need to sue.
Professionally I pitch all kinds of creative ideas, and sometimes people have nicked them. And it's not just cowboy businesses, big names do it too.
Or, just be quick. Test the idea then move quickly. If its that good an idea you'll get competition whatever you do. Small changes can get around copyright issues. So if you're first you're ahead of the game.
If you want to talk, email me.
