If this happens it will have serious ramifications for site owners, affiliates etc as a huge chunk of our traffic is going to disappear.

It could be a godsend as the internet killed porn in the first place, it may also make DVD a bit more popular, ban it & it gets bigger or goes unground...life will still go on for us porn folk as always xx

Dontcha love these knee jerk reaction headlines.
AVS (age verification) has been an issue for years and looks likely to be the method of blocking porn so you can put your info in and subscribe to it.
It would be only fair if they could stop the torrent and tube sites while they are at it

its a nothing story.. its says,..
'Instead of using parental controls to stop access to pornography - so-called "opting out" - the tap will be turned off at source. Adults will then have to "opt in.""
so no big deal - and its safer...

Grrr and fucking gnash!!!!
It follows the success of an operation by most British internet service providers (ISPs) to prevent people inadvertently viewing child porn websites. Ministers want companies to use similar technology to shut out adult pornography from children. Pornography sites will be blocked at source unless people specifically ask to view them.
Dont you just hate the media when they have to mention child porn!!!! For fucks sake! Why do they always have to play the boofgey man card.
Ive been in this business 15 years now and not ONCE have i stumbled on by accident or otherwise a site showing kids engaged in porn.
May I suggest then those that claim to find such things must be looking real hard for it unlike that lady on the British Sex vs Porn show on channel 4 that said she googled it and found child porn in 10 seconds.
Ive never seen child porn and have no interest in proving her right or wrong because I just don't want to see it therefore I dont

That kiddie porn thing is a red herring.
There isn't a magic technology spotting kiddie porn sites and banning them. There is a policeman maintaining a NotePad list of sites, and adding to it as they become aware of them.
ISPS are then blocking a lst of specific domains.
So, can you easily maintain and block a small list of kiddie porn sites? Yes, and bloody good thing.
Can you expand that "technology" to blocking hundreds of thousands of adult sites? Nope.
Can you do it with a Great Firewall of China?Saudi? Yes, but too much collateral damage.
What CAN work, technically, is to run an ISP based SafeSurf type thing, where the account holder chooses one of "Everything / No Adult / Family Friendly". Then it's the account holder's decision, not the ISPs.
But it's all window dressing - any net savvy porn hungry teen will simply install Tor "it's druid role playing Dad, you know, ceremonies at rock tors in Cornwall, duh"

Anyone see money in setting up a Dust Cloud service

The thing is that this kind of technology already exists in many countries, so it's not difficult to implement. One of my regular webcamming customers went on holiday and emailed me whilst he was away saying he wanted to see me in my show but the country had blocked access to all porn sites and he was extremely gutted!
I do think, however, that this would be very costly and I thought the government were cutting back on costs? The government could do with that money to spend where it NEEDS spending, like on the streets and roads that damage our cars because they need resurfacing, implementing things that reduce crime, things that reduce child abuse at home, things that reduce animal cruelty, improving child education. The list is endless of where that money could be spent. I read that this could take two years but that knocks off 3 years from my 5 year plan, therefore forcing me to worry about my future in this business, as I am sure everyone else is.
At first I thought "ah it's only a block, it doesn't really harm things", however a member on here opened my eyes! People will be scared or embarrassd to "opt in". The internet always made porn accessable so people didn't have to worry about hiding their mag or dvd stash and being caught with it by their partners or family. If they implement the block, people will be less open to "opt in" especially if they live with their partner who also uses the computer. They will wonder why they can view porn sites without them being blocked, thus causing a lot of questions from their partners. Yes magazine and dvd sales could go up but then again, people are still going to be afraid of being caught with them. This could be a very big mistake if the government decides to take this route...

papers are looking for story material as the country is blocked in by snow - will never happen as they know that porn makes the internet go round - same as when vhs took off just about every shop had porn undert he counter....
Control measures are fine - monitor ips usage at source and you can get those that mess with wrong porn and leave those that like to daubble and have a look at legal porn from time to time alone. work shifts and can say porn allows me to get to sleep nice lol
