Interesting link Lizard.
One of those german diallers automaticly started downloading on me the other day. It was hidden in a link I clicked. I think I might have successfully stopped it before it completed. Theres nothing listed in my Dial Up Connections but could it be hiding elsewhere in my system?
Two more questions for the experts:-
1) Does Norton Antivirus include Norton Firewall? Someone told me Norton Antivirus IS a firewall but I have my doubts.
2) Will Spybot fix these dialler fuckers?
3) When people talk about "check your registry" what do they mean by registry? Do they mean program files or what? Its all fuckin greek to me.

The Norton Internet Securities package contain both the Anti-Virus software and an excellent firewall - pretty much essential if you have broadband.

Before I downloaded Spybot, I'd never heard of Norton. Now I get
spam from Norton. Co-incidence?

Your Registry, is the place that contains ALL details of programmes stored on your computer, along with any user info
etc, it,s like an inventory of everything you have on your PC
All your main programmes and third party programmes have files here.(Executables)
It,s also the home of the lurker, when you download a programme it always leaves a registry entry, sometimes it,s a time activated one, such as when your on a 30 day trial and the like.
To get into it, you need to go to start, click on run, then type regedit.exe. click on any of the folder, and the info is there, so if you know the name of the software company that,s planted a dialler and such, just right click and delete, then restart your PC,this is safe if you have XP, as you can always do a system restore should you balls it up. For people without xp, BE VERY CAREFUL messing about with your reg can do serious damage and fuck your PC up.......A Lot.. Spybot will not stop diallers downloading, it may spot them when you run it later, but to really clear them out you need to look at the registry, but BE VERY CAREFUL.. get your grandad to help, he might even give you a werthers original!

Norton Firewall and Norton Anti-virus are separate products. The alternative Norton product, as mentioned, is Internet Security which contains both anti-virus and firewall facilities.

You don't get spam from Norton! Norton Anti Virus is owned by a company called Symantec.com & any mails to do with Norton should show symantec as the email address! I have had several over the last few weeks allegedly from Norton, but they are in fact usually viruses in disguise, eg the Klez virus. I had one that was allegedly a Klez removal tool & when I scanned in with my own Norton antivirus, it told me that it contained the Klez virus! So, beware! Don't open it if you don't knw who it's from!
Just delete!
