Thats not showing the changes between SD and HD though. As the images above and the ones in the examples are only 263pixels high. HD is typically 720pixels high and on blurays 1080pixels high

You appear to be showing the difference between different encoding options.

The difference is easier to see on the website where rolling the mouse over the image swaps it out for the HD one. To get the images I took a HD video and converted it to standard def. Then took stills from the same frame on each video and resized them to fit the site.

That seemed to be a farer way of comparison then SKY's HD website for example, where they artificially put lines over all the standard Def images. It also seemed unfair to stretch 576i up to 720p artificially blurring it and making it look worse like I've seen done on some HD websites.

If you have another way of doing the comparison you feel is fairer, let me know and I'll implement it

Unfair depending on how the clip is being viewed. On a TV its fair, as the stretched 720p image would be what the customer is seeing (or 1080p). On a PC most of the time its fair as the customer will view the video in a larger than 576pixel high window (so it gets stretched anyway)

The current way your doing it is more like the difference between encoding codecs, lets say for example that you encoded both clips as loseless video, then they should both look identical in your mouse-overs at the resolution you have chosen. The SD would not look any different.

If it were me, i would convert the comparisons from SD to 720p using bicubic resize and compare that against the HD image, its going to show the difference a lot better than your current solution and my guess is its more consistent with what your members are seeing.

Check the bluray section of AVSForums they do exactly the same to show the differences between bluray 1080p movies and DVD's
