differences between 18 and R18 certificates

Post by Darren »

I'm still confused between this 18 and R18 malarkey. I'm thinking about getting one of the "Star Whores" or the "Class Action" DVDs (18-certificate, Adult Channel DVD) but I won't if it has no hard material. Can anybody clarify in a few simple words what can be shown on an R18 that can't be shown on an 18, please? And also If anybody has watched the DVDs can they give an opinion on them as well please?

R18 is hard core. 18-certificate is not. 18 certificate videos of Adult Channel programmes will be, if anything, less explicit than the original programmes because TV programmes are not classified by the BBFC. Some of these programmes were never shot in hard versions in any case, including the ones you mention (I think, Big Jim will correct me if I'm wrong). The only cases where you will see anything that could be described as hard core in an 18-certificate video is where there is an 'artistic' justification. There is no way that anything shown on TAC or TVX could possibly claim that - for which we can all be grateful.

Click on Miscellany, go to the bottom of the page and then click on 'R18 frequently asked questions'. This is mainly a collection of links, including a link to the BBFC guidelines for R18.

Alec, (as usual} is absolutely correct. There is a hard version of Class Action 2 but so far it has only been shown on Spice Platinum (and a few places on the web).

The 18 rated versions of Class Action and Star Whores aren't actually all that bad in terms of censoring. (I think the regulations might have loosened up a bit since the last time I saw a UK 18 title some many years ago.) But they are very tame compared to hardcore.

If you can wait a few weeks, Tamara does appear in Nadia's Sweet Revenge (which is hardcore) as long as your DVD player can accept NTSC. Do a search on the forum for details.

Cheers,

Big Jim

I think the general rule of thumb is- 18: means no pussy. Or at least no open leg shots anyway.

I don't think that's quite true. Open legs, yes - open pussy or penetration, no.

Incorrect Dionysus. I shoot for Liquid Gold and 18 certificate does include open pussy and the girl can simulate masturbation providing she doesn't hook her fingers to look like she is. To redefine: 18 no insertions into vagina. R18 insertions to all orifices.

Big Jims right though. The bbfc have relaxed the censorship issue but part of it is also working out interesting ways around the rules without actually flaunting them. Soft versions can be quite erotic too, especially for the current spate of posters here who are getting a bit tired of the full on hard core stuff. Sorry chaps, but we can't please everybody as much as we'd like to.

Just to double check, BJ - you're saying there is absolutely NO h/c footage from the 'Star Whores' series? It certainly looked as if it was performed h/c and then edited for UK consumption.

I have a Liquid Gold 18 Cert video called 'Ram It Up Me' featuring Kellemarie in soft b/g action. Is there a h/c version of this?
