Hiya Guys,

I'm just looking into doing a download to own site for my movies and I've hit a stumbling block, so I was just wondering your thoughts.

Which is better, or which do you prefer, DivX or Windows Media?

Any thoughts peeps?

In my opinion Divx is better as it tends to be recognised by most DVD players and media players.

I have a hard disk media player (really handy for simply plugging in to a tv), which plays most formats except WMV.. I have searched for a media player which plays WMV format, but there are not many of them (I think it is something to do with Microsoft!)

So all my WMV stuff has to be converted to Divx ... which takes an age (to keep the quality)

Thats my thought...
Cheers

thanks joe
I am thinking of the compact 3.5" or 2.5" HDD portable drives, which fit easily into a briefcase when travelling..
Good to know the xbox has this facility. cheers

From what I can remember you need a license from DivX to distribute movies using their codec. Maybe look into Xvid as an alternate?

I use both, but only upload Hi Def movies in DivX as it is easier to create significantly smaller file sizes without too much compromizing on quality.

Thanks guys, I think i'll go with both, might as well cover both bases.

Johnuk - I'll look into the licensing for DivX, plenty of people are using it, so it shouldn't be to bad.

I've been playing around with the DivX encoder and the best compression I can get is around 10mb per minute. Does that sound right or am I missing something.

Quite a few of our scene are quite long and the resulting divX files are anywhere between 380 - 500mb, it just seems a little to big for downloading.

What do you think guys?

Thanks for that Joe, I've had a quick look already. I don't really want to reduce the image size to much as I'd like people to be able to burn them to dvd.

Does anyone know how to change the audio output from stereo to mono in DivX converter?
