Models and Newbies project

This is an idea I have had for sometime- I thought I would share with this board in order for people to share any experiences with similar projects, and for general feedback.

I would like to do photoshoots involving an experienced model alongside someone who is genuinly new - someone who hasn't been photographed before.

Obviously the primary difficultly would be finding the "Newbie." As such I was wondering if this is something the model herself could do- in essence invite a friend along. Obviously the model would be paid for the time and effort involved finding the newbie.

So- models- does this sound " do-able?" Might your friends, or possibly even just casual people you know, have an interest in posing?

Just for example- would you be willing to approach someone in a supermarket and ask if she would consider posing with you? Or does this sound like a bad idea from the start?

When models have friends wanting to try it, they tend to get them involved with the best professionals they know.

I don't do any cold recruitment myself, but a friend of mine does and he simply carries business cards that say he is a glamour/adult photographer. He hands them to pretty girls on the street, bars, shops.

He doesn't make a big thing of it - just "Excuse me, I'm a photographer, you look like you should model, give me a call if you're interested." as he hands them his card.

He treats it as a numbers game - a lot of cards go out, a few girls get discovered.

I have just started out myself and all my mates are asking questions, etc! I'm sure a few of them are dying to try it, but aren't really sure. It was a friend that got me involved, and i'm so glad she did (thankyou Loz, you're a star!!). I think this could appeal to some of my friends, i'll have an ask around!
