Affiliates Schemes - Are they worthwhile?

Hi there,

There was a recent post here about the benefits of using affiliates for paysite member join ups.

My question however, is from the other side.

I'm planning to launch my own paysite in the future, and will no doubt use an affiliate scheme such as CCbills...........however that is going to be in the future........

In the meantime, I would like to raise some capital for my own proposed site by registering myself as an affiliate, for other sites....so.....

Does anyone here have any success using affiliate programms to advertise other paysites?
Can one realize a modest income by concentrating in this area?

Im not planning on creating TGPs (thats not an area im that familiar with)..........but there are some forums that i participate online that are fetish related. My idea was to target websites related to that, and then with permission post some sample pics/vid clips etc.....with a link back to the site, embedded with my affiliate code etc.

I was also thinking of creating some web pages with image galleries etc from these sites - again with the embedded link back.

Okay I guess this is like a TGP gallery, but i wouldnt be submitting to the normal gallery sites. AS i said these would be targetted to specific forums and egroups etc that I participate in......im hoping that way to target the traffic.

Not expecting a fortune from this, but as i spend many hours a day on the computer, I thought it might be prudent to sign up for some schemes to make some extra cash. Most of em seem to pay about 50% with recurring commissions which seems quite good.

So your advice and comments PURLEEEAZE folks. If you have any experience regarding signing up as Affiliates, especially if you have some facts and figures regarding what can be achieved, then I would be very gratefull.

people can make money as an affiliate for other sites, I would hazzard a guess that some of our top affiliates are turning over figures in excess of a million dollars a year, but it is very hard work, as you need lots of traffic to make conversions (usually).

but it can certainly be done

well i would be starting very modestly.

I wouldnt be getting that much traffic - but the fact i would be posting on specific forums/boards - i would hope that my traffic is more targetted than most.............what bye the way is the normal sign up ratio - to hits?

there is no "average" as it depends on the site you are sending traffic to (send it to a poor site and you will get poor conversions) and also the quality of your traffic.

tgp traffic is usually poor traffic, and whilst you say you have targetted forum traffic, it could be great traffic, but it alternatively could be poor traffic if the forum is full of freebie pics the forumites there may just be freeloaders not prepared to pay for a membership.

we have conversions for onlytease varying from 1:1000 or more for tgp traffic (but some tgps are better than others- ie a hardcore tgp will not convert well on OT as we are a soft site, but a stockings tgp converts better) to as low as 1:15 for some sites that have our links in their members area (as they are promoting a site to their members who are people who are prepared to pay).

my educated guess for what i think you are going to do is expect around 1:750 - 1:1250 conversions, but this can vary considerably for hundreds of different reasons.

I make some very nice pocket money through my free sites promoting other paysites. I definitely think it's worth it.

without wanting to sound stupid - what is the difference between "free sites" and TGPs?

I've often wondered why Brit sites rarely use the many free promotion sites available, especially when the American sites in particular seem to.

On one site recently there was British G/G which had over 315,000 views in just a few days but there is no info about the site or who the models were.

The US sites post trailers that often have the site name embedded in them. (Bangbros etc)

If punters like what they see I am thinking at least a few of the 300,000 + will visit the 'parent site' and possibly join.

They seem to be a brilliant way of free advertising any ideas why the Brit industry rarely use them to promote its stuff?

The answer is probably obvious but as an outsider looking in I can't work it out
and I always think it's an opportunity missed.
