I've seen some British porn sites with this on their main page and I've seen some British websites that don't have this anywhere on their site.
Do British sites actually need this? From what I gather it is only a US based law.

British Sites do not need it ....no.
But if you are using US based affiliates you do ...as they will be using your content to promote your site, so would need proof of age verification for the FBI should it be required.
Thats about as basic as I can explain it.

Hmm...not sure what jurisdiction the FBI have to seize documents in the UK due to the UK Data Protection Act?
I could be totally wrong though and have to be honest and say we certainly cover our arse!!!bobby!

If you use a US based payment processor such as CCBill or Epoch then you need it as part of their terms.
