This is the number one thing you should think of before you even build your site. You could have the best site in the world but if noone knows you're there, you're a gonner.
Try swapping banners and looking at sites like the hun.

start by getting link trades with sites of the same niche you are promoting on your site.

Its easy, you can get around 70,000 hits an hour from a few sites. It the conversion thats hard. Don't start till you have a real quality site. Get everyones opinion first make the changes then go for trafic. If you are doing video its worth thinking it through. You go anywhere that gets you big traffic it could cost you in bandwidth. If you are not with a good server set up it might even crash you out. I have seen ISP's go down because of traffic. I would say don't go for bulk traffic go for small deals just so you can cope.

Traffic and sales aren't relevant 3.4 million page hits in 24 hrs on the Hun 625gb of bandwidth used on one video gallery (4 x 20 sec clips at 1kbps res) sales 60 so not that productive. Build on quality not quantity.

as riley says the hun will produce a shit load of traffic, but usually it is freebie hunters and doesn't convert well.

we find best traffic is search engine traffic, but that takes time to produce

I find the best traffic comes from non adult sites or search engines. Personality sites on yahoo generate a bit too.
