webspace available

Just a idea - I host my own web server (where I sell my own writing) at the end of my broadband connection and can offer webspace to people for a modest amount per month.

Currently running Apache with php and MySQL servers.

Apologies for being rubbish at selling myself: I can't promise uber things like 100% uptime (although it's been up for a good eight months without stopping), but can offer a complete "no questions asked put whatever you want" on here. For big uploads, post disks and I'll install them.

Saying that, I will NOT host any form of underage pornography, but adult gay, straight, hardcore, softcore, chat servers, bulletin boards, blogs, test websites, images is fine.

If there's a demand I am thinking of asking about ?50 a year. Be aware this reflects both the speed and the service I can offer. I'm not 1and1! For masses of video, contributions towards disks would be welcome.

Regards,
Nick

Have you checked that your ISP will allow you to do this ?

I was nailed by an ISP for the same :(

Also whats your upload speed ? if your on a residential line, then you will have between 128kbps-384kbps not seen anyone offering higher yet, altho it is in the pipeline.

Yep, I asked - entirely ok. I host five sites on it at the moment, my own, where I sell my writing, a music site for a local publicist, the emma search website (might not be up after feedback from this esteemed area), a test site for a role playing company and the ticketing system for requests/community builds.

I tend to get roughly 50k/sec. Not super fast, I know. Having a look around implies this si expensive considering the bandwidth, so will reduce ot ?20. If there's real interest I'll see about sdsl or another more substantial pipe.

I'm just trying to use the kit I've got to make a little money. If someone wants to put a 500mb video up, and redirect users to save bandwidth then do.

All ideas welcome.

Many thanks all,
Nik
