I am after a few opinions from the wealth of experience on these boards. I am pro-am photographer who has been asked to do some shoots for a model for a proposed pay web site. The thing is, she is planning on a pure solo girl site. Now if this was a simple bit of model photographer employment it would be all her business and nothing to do with me. Thing she is a pal too. I can?t help thinking that unless you are some celeb model ala Jordan a solo model pay site is not really commercially viable and I?d hate to see my friend waste her time and money.
So what do all you folks think? Is the project realistic, or am I being to pessimistic? Your comments and advice would be very welcome.

I ran a website for a Faye Dixie (also a mate of mine)
She only did solo (inc watersports) and G/G and it never really worked - yeh we made some money but nothing i guess compared to if she had done hardcore...

It depends on the model. If it's Adele Stephens or Kerry Marie or someone of that ilk, then yes. If not then there are lots to choose from and unless you have some kind of unique selling point, I'd say it's a struggle to get and then keep members. There are only so ways you can shoot a model on their own, and both of the models I have mentioned above do shoot girl/girl to some extent.

Also, these days unless you have a very fair proportion of video then it's really hard to keep members. As a photographer it pains me to say that stills just don't cut it on their own any more.

You have to remember that the money is made not on the initial signup but on retention and it's really hard to keep members with one girl unless she is very special.

Yes, an object of desire needs to be very special indeed. The only bird I think I would even consider signing up for (if I had time on my hands) is Danni Ashe, with her incredible, hypersexual pneumatic figure, exceedingly pretty face, and the fact that she's not a lairy chav. Yep, I think Danni would be my ideal girlfriend/sex partner, my dream bird. But would I sign up for anyone less? I'm afraid not. I find almost all contemporary porn birds (and I?m talking about the whole world here) strangley bland, desexualised, unstimulating. They do not wow me in the slightest. And I guess many other potential punters feel the same way. You know, I find it very difficult to sell a movie if it has not got any really attractive, glamorous, birds in it. Punters still want Teresa, Charmeine, Adele, Louise, Samantha and Claudia, etc. Proper desirable, feminine, models from the pre-chav age. If I tell the punters that it's only got 'Cheryl Chav? and her pal 'Shazza' in it, being pawed by some chortling geezers, they're totally not interested.

Of course, a bird who might not be anything special in the eyes of the opposite sex could still hack it and be successful if she catered for some special fantasy or fetish. In that instance the punters would not be buying into the bird, but the fetish she was catering for.

But where are all the ultra desirable feminine sex goddesses of today? They were always there in ages past. So, where are the girls that make you feel that selling your soul to Beelzebub would be an entirely reasonable price to pay for her favours? I really don?t see any (Danni is a survivor from the pre-chav age). Has anyone else noticed this depressing phenomenon? What could it all mean?

I think it all depends on the model. We have just launched a solo girl site with UK Page 3 model Melanie Walsh, and the signups so far has been excellent.

But to compete in the solo market the girl has to have a wow factor to succeed.

Depends really.
Take a look around the internet, the only sologirl sites I can think of would be katesplayground.com, nextdoornikki.com, and a few others managed by the same people as Kate. They're all college girls from the US and Canada.
I think it depends on the marketing though. I know for both of the above sites they show no nude pics whatsoever in their marketing, and I think they didn't do any at all for the first few months of them being online.

Dibble you've hit the nail on the head. This is what is/has destroying/ed the UK porn industry. Everyone seems to have gone rushing down the easy route of getting a few slappers who probably wouldn't get a second look in Tesco's with the odd dubious bloke and telling them to fuck.
I mean, these days it's pretty easy to go to a bar, pick up some drunk slapper and do pretty much whatever you like with her. Sad and demeaning, I know, but true. So why would you want to bother watching the same sort of thing on your telly at home.
Porn by definition should be all about fantasy and not just reflect the sad old lives most of us lead.
It's really not good enough, the girls are out there, I'm sure, but would you want to be shoved into the crass melee that passes for the UK porn industry today.
I speak from experience having discussed it with a couple of quite widely published glamour models who I know would be wonderful on screen. Their answer, "we'd love to do it but not amongst the rubbish that's turned out from the UK these days". Your loss guys I'm afraid.
Before certain lovely ladies that take part in this forum hang, draw and quarter me. I accept that there are a few lovely ladies in the industry now, it's just that they are not given any encouragement to stretch, no not like that!, themselves.
If it's a money problem, then why don't some of you "producers" get together and try and make a film that will be something you can be proud of instead of churning out the same old stuff day in day out. In Hollywood it's not uncommon for producers to work together so why not in the porn industry.
Perhaps Cinders is the first sign of a sea change but somehow I doubt it.
Do yourselves a favour guys and get yourselves copies of Debbie Does Dallas 2, The Opening of Misty Beethoven, Behind The Green Door and Sex World. Watch, look and learn because that's how it should be done in my humble opinion.
My God did I really write all that, sorry all but it's a bit of a hobby horse of mine. I just can't abide waste and that is what the industry is doing with its talent now.

I am absolutely delighted that at least tas has seen the light and can't wait for my copy of Hot Cinders.

The thing I would disagree with Officer Dibble on is the quality of models I think there are loads of very attractive women in the industry BUT the problem as I see it is that they just aren't being given the proper opportunities to make the films we would like to see.

Unfortunately I think most of the producers will argue that were making money, the models are making money so we don't care.

I will be very interested to see just how successful Hot Cinders is.

In my opinion, slamdaddy has hit the nail on the head.
Some of the "US college girl" sites are doing great sales but getting the right UK girl is difficult as there in shorter supply.
When running a website, remember you have a global market so you must aim at this market and not just the UK market or your gonna lose a hell of lot of sales.
