Developing a web site

I'm setting up a web site with smoking models, girls sit and smoke cigarettes on camera - all clothes on etc.
The reason for this email is that I know of many models and actresses on this forum own their own web sites.
I wondered:
1. Who built the back end and do you have a contact number?
2. Which server company did you use as downloadable videos eat up bandwicth and any server company used ends to be understanding.
All advice at this stage would be welcome.

Hi Lee,
I'm having a website built as well so this might be useful for you.
It's being built by a guy named Myk (he says it's Mike with a 'y') his e-mail address is
myk@bigloaf.com
The servers I'm using are with Hairy Glove, you can find their website here
Hope it helps mate, good luck.

Two handy tips guys.
Thanks. I'll try your contacts ASAP.
ps. Jacques - are you sure you get 330 Gb of user traffic for ?6.00 per month. That seems awfully low cost.

If you use a cheap host be prepared for probs getting support when you need it the most...
Check out They're not the cheapest but they are very reliable and support couldn't be bettered when you are getting set up and afterwards if you have a prob

Always be wary of anyone offering that much bandwidth for that money...
When u set up as a host, most providers work to sell what you got in which u are allocated 1,000 GB Bandwidth and and when u allocate 50 gb to customer A ur host account drops to 950gb remaining.
Now you allocate 50gb to a customer and they only use 5gb a month, ur gonna be pissed that, that month u could have sold to another 9 customers like him, so re-address the balance, alot of hosts enable "Over Selling" which means when u sell 330gb ur account still says 1000gb and only goes down as they use it.
So they may sell u 330GB but weather u actually have 330gb is another matter
Also in order to cut costs even more, they reduce customer service down to something like responce within 3 days, and email contact only...
In Hosting terms, you generally get what you pay for

As Cenobitez says, avoid anywhere which looks to cheap.
If you spend a lot of time on your site you want it to stay up. If you have problems you need to get it fixed quickly by your host.
Look for a host who offers 24/7 support by email/ICQ/phone.
See what happens if you exceed your alloted bandwith - do they cut you off or charge a huge amount extra for overage.
I've used and all being great and well known in the industry.

I think the major issue is, IF you site exceeds its bandwidth, and goes down, how long for ? are u going to have to start refunding people ? how long before people complain ? how many search engines come and see ur gone ? how much damage to your credibility ?
IF you want extra security look for one with an SLA (Service Level Aggreement), They offer come guarantees and can be used to your advantage if it goes wrong, altho you will pay extra for this
If you dont want the SLA look into a host that has 99% + Uptime Guarantee, but remember that 99% uptime allows for 80 hours of downtime per year, so ur sirte can still be down for nearly 4 days
Be wary of 100% uptime guarantee's as i dont think many hosts can reasonable guarantee that, altho im sure some can, but bear in mind even the mighty google, has been knocked offline (albeit from a DDoS attack, but then ur server maybe hacked/DDoS'd), so know that as well.
There are other such things to look for such as Burstable bandwidth the power of their upstream but more importantly as Matt Said What happens if you go over u limit, can u buy ? how much is more ? ?1 a gig ? ?7 per gig ? i saw a host charging ?10 per gig over ur limit, so make sure u know
IF you need more bandwidth, do u pay at the time, do they want the money BEFORE they give it to you ? how longs it take to pay them ?
You need to know all the answers to the questions
and more as well, so that your prepared. You are after all a business and need to think like one.

A couple of downside from hosts I've sufered:
a) I was with one of the best known hosts and I had done a major update to one of my sites. I went 250 Mb over my storage and ended up being charged $1 a Mb extra !!! I was used to being chaged $5-10 for an extra 100 Mb with other hosts.
b) A cheaper host charged me just $0.50 per gig for overage and I ended up with a bill mid month for an extra $500 because the site had a very busy 2 weeks
So Lee... As the others have said... It's the after sales service that is the most important...
