After nearly 4 years of doing Handjobheaven and having one of the biggest HJ sites on the web would you consider me to be a Amateur producer or am i a Pro producer.

Since some models consider me to be Amateur and won't work for me i would welcome your views on this ... when does an Amateur become a pro ????

Mick If you are making your living out of it you are professional. I think the word amatuer is used for sympathy for the product, a bit of a get out of jail card.

I would say in between, Amateur & Pro.
I think some of what I have seen of yours is pretty good & different from many other producers in the UK. Keep up the good work, and I wouldn't worry about some of the models not wanting to work for you. You have worked with some good names already.

My humble opinion.

I would agree with Marino in that if you are earning from your productions then you have to be professional.

I would add though that if HJ Heaven is NOT your fulltime job then you could be classed as "semi-pro" but definately not amateur.

You are a pro Mick. You pay people to work for you, you sell it to make money and get legal documentation such as i.d's. If it is not your main job but a part time hobby thing then you are semi-professional.

I revelled under the label of amateur for a long while until I was no longer accepted as such when I started the One Eyed Jack series and couldnt submit anymore amateur contributions to Your Choice because there were those who didnt regard me as amateur anymore. Some even accused me of selling out.

The way I look at it, you are amateur if you do it for no money and its for private use only...or swapsies.

Hi Mick

I suppose it depends what is meant by amateur and perhaps it?s not so much about how much you earn anymore but more about product output. Lets be honest some of these work of an evening companies earn a fortune with low overheads and running costs so if we apply the money angle they would be at the top of the chain. In other industries amateur means cowboy not part time and they even see their part time colleagues as dedicated professionals. It would appear the amateur market in Britain is building a new identity and feedback tells me a common question is, have you got any new amateur? What they mean is our British home grown amateur films and not the camcorder stuff of yester year! When this happened in the states a lot of the big players backed smaller companies to embrace the new consumer demand hence the GONZO era and the vibrant market enjoyed in the US today. Some of the European web sites are also staring to re-brand their amateur categories as if they were a style on their own such as hetro, lesbian, gangbang.

With that said and having prattled on too much I?d say so what if some models refuses to work with you because of how you have set up your empire. I bet even if you won an AVN they would still feel the same! Not everyone will like what we shoot or how its shot or edited and that?s cool because it gives another bloke a bite of the apple.

You have your own style and method of shooting and as long as it works, DO IT.

According to the dictionary one who makes money from it is a pro.
According to me, what makesa true professional is that a pro consistently
does it right every time. I'm an amateur photographer and sometimes I
get some really nice pictures. Other times they suck. My friend is a
professional photographer working for a newspaper. He brings back the
good shots every day. Whether it's a good day or a bad day he always
produces the pics his employer needs. Then in the porn industry we have
the professional photographers who shoot amateur models or professionally
produce photos that appear to be amateurish, what we call call pro-am.
Based on a quick glance at your site it looks to me like you do pro-am.
I'd call you a professional photographer shooting pro-am content.

Hi Mick

Go with the times Mick & let people call your work am or pro & long as it sells don't give a damn, as the costs of films go higher more pro producers are jumping in on the amateur market trying to recreate films & passing them off as amateur so there is no longer any line to judge a producer by.
If a producer lasts more than a few years then they are doing something right & its true to say they learn the tricks of the trade to call themselves pro, if most of the porn paying public have heard of your films e.g. Ben Dover then you've made it if your films be pro or am whereas some big companies can go for years without sucess. Enjoy yourself Mick with the niche in the U.K market that you have.
