I wonder if any of the German experts on 70's porn can give me any information on this prolific director? I have during the course of building up my dvd collection mainly concentrated on the films of Hans Billian from this period, but I noticed that Enz had made a large number of films and I decided to try them. Unfortunately hardcore versions are difficult to get hold of and I assume his pre 1975 films probably did not have hc versions.
Enz's films are probably not to everyone tastes, concentrating as his early ones did, on rural Baveria. He also has a tendancy to include one very large woman in the cast of his films, usually Christa Abel in his later ones. Enz does not measure up to Billian but he is in my opinion the next best thing. Any info, particulary the availability of his hardcore work on dvd would be welcome.

No, and some of his later films didn't have one either.
Hardly any of his hardcore stuff has appeared on DVD (several softcore versions of his films have appeared on DVD though), the only exception seems that recent release from Herzog of Pornokneipe.
Video is another matter. Video versions of some of his hardcore films regularly show up on filmundo, e.g. Emanuelle in Oberbayern is currently on offer in two separate auctions ending this weekend.

The closest thing to Billian are probably a series of films made by Rolf Schnitzler, Ulf Schier, etc. for Alois Brummer: Zwei geile Hirsche auf der Flucht, Mit Gurke und Banane, Rosi Nimmersatt, Der Pornofotograf. Trouble is: a DVD release of these does not look very imminent, and even the old videos are rare (and dear).
In my opinion, Enz's films are usually technically well-made (with a couple of exceptions that are pretty dire, e.g. Das versexte Klassenzimmer is underlit), and the pacing is alright, but the writing is not good, and as a director of actors he just does not cut the mustard. In Emanuelle in Oberbayern he managed to make Sepp Gneissl to ham it up, and that takes some doing.
Have you tried Alan Vydra? Verlorene Eier has appeared last month on DVD.
