American Vintage movie forum

I'm looking for a forum that is specialised in Vintage American adult movies.
My collection from the 70's and early 80's contains several hundreds of movies with a lot of question marks about Directors or actors-actrices.
The search on IAFD was a great help, but I think that there must be a lot
of fans that could help me.

Thanks T C

GROAN!!!

Robert H. Rimmer wrote the "The X-Rated Videotape Guide", which was published by Harmony Press/Crown Publishers in 1984, and which contained reviews of movies (soft and hard), which were being released on video. He revised it in 1986, and wrote a second volume in 1991 which was published by Prometheus Books. Volumes 3 and 4 were written by Patrick Riley who was and may still be posting at the RAME newsgroup.
Rimmer died in August 2001 (at the age of 84).

This was a post by Riley in 1998 to the RAME newsgroup which will provide background info on these informative books :

The answer is: It depends.

Volumes I and II were written by Robert Rimmer who used a mainstream
approach to writing the review. IOW think a review written by Siskel
and Ebert. Heavy on the plot narrative and opinion based on the story
more than the sex but much more than Maltin-type synopses. According
to Rimmer all women are gorgeous so don't expect any critical
comments.

Vols III and IV were joint efforts by Rimmer and myself. For
Rimmer-only reviews, think the same as I and II. For my reviews, lots
more emphasis on who does what to whom.

Volume V and up are Riley only. Up to vol IV you only get reviews but
volume V represents a major change. The industry was turning out too
many movies to realistically review so I have to pick and choose and
naturally I choose movies which might have some chance of being erotic
or which, like the Dr. Fellatio series, are rammed down my throat
. For these you get a review with details of the looks of
any new girls, who does what to whom, whether there are condoms (by
scene generally), detailed niitty gritty about the story if any, and
some evaluation (i.e., my opinion) of the erotic value of each scene.
The maximum length of a review excluding cast, distributor, etc is 100
lines of 60 characters with most being around 20 to 30 lines. There
are no paragraphs. Each scene will be listed but unlike (say) Lenny I
won't tell you if she does cowgirl, mish, spoon, etc; I'll just tell
you "Joe screws Mary using a condom and including an anal ending in a
facial."

For movies I don't review, I provide what I know about the movie
generally culled from the advertising, other people's reviews, box,
etc. and since most other reviews don't tell you who does what to
whom, all I can do is list cast, distributor, alternate names etc and
make a synopsis-type description. I do not carry over other people's
opinions as to the value of the movie but due to frustration you might
occasionally see mine just based on the box or cast (Imagine "Older
And Anal #34"). I do about 1000 reviews per year so the rest are
synopses.

Later volumes will also have some re-reviews of older movies
originally reviewed by Rimmer in I or II where I have re-seen the
movie or where I thought Rimmer's review gave it short shrift or was
overly enthusiastic. Some old movies that have never been reviewed by
anyone (e.g. the stuff now being brought out by Something Weird and
Alpha Blue) are in the later volumes.

Unlike movies you can preview books. For the acid test take a trip to
your local Barnes & Noble (or whatever LARGE bookstore you have) and
check them out. They're in the movie section. If they don't have them,
ask them to order them . Don't pay in advance. B&N have a
policy of calling you when the book comes in and at that point you can
say "No" and it just goes on the shelf. No cost to you. Most LARGE
chains are the same.

There are eight volumes, as indicated in mark shanon's reply.
They have been remaindered by Prometheus. They no longer appear in its catalog. I obtained the volumes I had bypassed originally [Vols. III & IV] from Edward R. Hamilton (only ships to U.S.A. addresses), but I believe it no longer has any in its inventory.
These are the 'vintage | retro erotica' fora of which I am familiar:

If you have a Live Journal weblog account, you should also investigate the communities of retro__sex and eroticfilms.
I hope this helps you.
