Sometimes it looks like D'Amato and Damiano use this practise of making films:
1. get together on a location somewhere
2. get a number of actors
3. shoot tons of raw tape.
4. mix some of the stuff into 4 (preferably 6) different movies
same thing with Salieri and his friends. Must be what we could call the 90's italian way.

He squeezed enough footage to make two "Tarzan" movies with Rocco and wife Rosa (they needed an exotic vacation???), and I don't know whether he used some footage or same location for Selen movie about a wild jungle girl...

no,most of his last movies were actually shot on 35 mm stock, very expensive locations & some actresses as well.
the days of using & reusing footage wasn't his practice anymore..
d'amato only released his 'unique' movies w different titles,
i have multiple films of his in a german language,released in Belgium/Holland & in eng or french on another label,other artwork...
so don't call him a cheap hack,okay!?
most of his plots however lack something..
love his Rome"nce series,tho.
my pal dubbed it CastlePorn. sounds good enough
what about MidEvilPorn TM:))
can i say franchise...

I don't want to get into a real discussion on whether Joe D'Amato may be considered one of the greatest porn director. In light of the fact he had a very long mainstream career, in making exploitation films on the fast and cheap that he would make excellent porn films. It did not seem to be the case from the films that I saw. I would not call him a hack, but I don't think he is the top of his profession either.
He has a large following for both his mainstream and hard-core work, I will give him that. I think he has done average work in either genre. There is not much out there that you can really compare D'Amato with. There were not a lot of American directors that worked in both fields (Henry Paris/Radley Metzger being one of the few exceptions and he shot great hard-core porn). In his latest hard-core work, he made overuse of slow-motion during sex scenes, zoom lenses, etc which are very distracting when you are trying to stay aroused.
What was he thinking about when he cast Rocco as Tarzan (and the legal questions regarding such a well-recongnized character)?
