american porn, even from the so-called 'golden age' doesn't have the sensuality, playfullness, and and erotic tension you find in the best euro porn. (even mediocre euro porn, in my opinion, is a cut-above)
the only problem with euro porn is that it's often in another language and i hate that! it's much sexier knowing what they're saying and being able to follow the plot.
one porno company that i love is color climax. their movies are fantastic, but virtually impossible to find in the united states, even in liberal san francisco. the movies online are not in english.
there are some imports to america, such as private which is very big here. private, however doesn't appeal to me. their stuff is produced in spain i believe, while i tend to prefer the imports from france, italy and especially germany.
also, i've noticed that i prefer imports from the 1970s and early 1980s. it seems like the steep drop off in quality from that era is not limited to american product.
however it seems to me that in general, the current euro product is far better than american product that has been produced either today or in the past.

I agree. English is a beautiful language, I adore it. But French, Spanish, Italian are wonderful too. I personally like German, even Russian (though I cannot understand it). It often is. Large companies like Marc Dorcel or Colmax often have a choice of languages on their DVDs. But what you gain by understanding the dialogue you lose because the dialogue, translation and acting by the dubbing artists is often so awful. The English dub in Roma Connection is a prime example of this.

US releases of 70s and 80s European adult films were dubbed into English, and these were better, but even so the speech is often lifeless somehow, as it is in spaghetti westerns with the minor characters.

As a result many prefer the original language - "live sound" as it were. But European adult films are often dubbed in any case, partly because that was often how they were shot - the so-called Italian method where everything was dubbed so that the director could shout directions as the action was filmed (sent up by Jamie Gillis in a scene in Blonde Ambition) even if the performers were speaking their native tongue. But nowadays, European films made in France, Gemany or Italy often use performers from several different countries and are often dubbed for this reason.

Anyway, watching an adult film is one of the more interesting ways to pick up a smattering of a foreign language.

yes, there are some companies, such as private and marc dorcel that release their videos dubbed or subtitled, or both. my problem is that so few companies take the time to do this -- instead we get 'original tone,' which may be fine for some people, but not for me.
the bigger problem is that so few companies distribute in the US to begin with.

finding well-filmed videos with a simple plot, erotic tension and performers who look like they're having fun (instead of a painful experience) is nearly impossible. american companies like wicked who pretend they're making real movies fail to make either good films or good erotica.
and while it can be distracting i have no problem with poor dubbing, so long as plot exposition and sexy dialogue can be understood.

As to companies not distributing in the US, do you have a DVD player which can handle PAL disks? If so then the answer may be to buy from overseas, from companies like orgazmik.

These comanies have English language versions of their sites. Orgazmik indicate which languages are available on the DVD and also whether it is PAL or NTSC. Some European companies produce NTSC DVDs in any case. Dorcel and Colmax do anyway.
