Age verification in Queens Speech

Im pretty agnostic about age verification. However, the govt's intention of giving OFCOM extra-territorial powers over foreign porn sites will require an unacceptable amount of blocking and will entail the erection of a fire-wall to rival those of China or Iran and other enlightened free societies. It will also result in there being compiled a list of people who go through the age verification process to access on-line material. Coupled with the retaining of ones internet browsing history it ushers in a totally new era of unwarranted official invasion of our privacy.

Pandora Blake has written extensively on the issue.

Besides, a government that carelessly forces 1000's of children into poverty each year as a matter of policy has no business claiming to be looking after children's welfare.

I couldn't agree more.

It's also ironic that the UK's biggest wanker wants to block porn. With his self righteous pledge to "protect" children from "offensive" things, who is he to decide what's offensive? I find Cameron's belief that he's a man of the people offensive when he's fucked over Britain's poorest and most vulnerable. I find his double standards offensive when condemning Jimmy Carr for tax avoidance but being silent on Gary Barlow doing the same thing and saying his involvement was a private matter. Despite all of that, he's on the airwaves and in more media than porn.

I agree with you both but what kind of impact can we really expect from age verification?

The age verification bill (The Digital Economy Bill) was laid before parliament today.
