Gary Glitter jailed for life...

Gary Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, has been jailed for life for assaulting young girls. It is likely that the 70 year old will die in jail. They say that every dog has its day, and he's now had his. I wonder what treatment he'll get it prison, although he'll be sectioned-off in the perverts wing, so he'll be safe. I did hear once though that you only get put in such a place after a while, initially he'll be in with everyone else so he'll be in danger from ordinary lags. They'll be out to get him for the evil crimes he's committed and also because of his celebrity status. He had better watch his back for the next few months or so until they put him in a safe wing with the pervs - assuming he hasn't been murdered by then.
By the way he lives (or rather lived) very near where I work. Just off Baker Street in central London there is a short side road of Victorian blocks called Bickenhall Street and that is where Glitter has been living for some years. Opposite his road, on Baker Street, is the Tesco's many of us go to for a sandwich at lunchtime and there is a pub less than 100 metres away we sometimes go to. I've never seen him but a couple of my colleagues have. Always in disguise but you can still tell it's him. He has now swapped his mansion-block flat for a jail cell. I always wondered what his neighbours in his block thought of having him living amongst them.
As I said, every dog has its day - and now Mr Paul Gadd has had his...

Slight correction Max - he hasn't been jailed for life. He hasn't even been sentenced yet, that doesn't happen until Feb 27th. It is true though that one of the charges he's been found guilty of carries a potential life sentence, I think that's where you've got mixed up.
Having said that, it looks like he's facing some serious time and given that he's 70, chances are that the only way he'll be coming out will be in a box. Which would be fine by me.

Because of his age, it is likely he'll die in jail, so he'll probably spend the rest of his life there - even though he'll probably not get a life sentence as such. A younger person banged up for all this would likely see the light of day sometime in the future. I remember some years ago after he came out of jail in Thailand (I think it was) and there was talk of him moving to Cuba where he would have total anonymity - he would also have been out of reach of the British justice system. Bizarelly he moved to central London, and later the full reach of the British justice system caught up with him. I'm glad he's been sent down. I bet he's regretting not moving to Cuba now.

Agreed. That's if the lags he'll be in with, prior to being put on the perverts wing, don't batter him to death first!

I bet he's regretting taking his computer into PC World a lot more.

No doubt. That was where it all started. I remember when I saw that on the news years ago, about how Gary Glitter took his computer to PC World and they discovered loads of sick images on there, that a lot of other people who have looked up similar things on their pc's would now never take them in to be repaired - instead just throw them away (having smashed them to pieces with a hammer first) and then just bought a new one. Because of the massive coverage that got, a lot of other people who would have been busted for looking up sick things never were. Sick paedo's got wise after that. It just shows how big coverage in the news of certain issues helps bad people.

No, Vietnam.

Again no. He was refused admission to Cuba (even though he is the father of a Cuban boy, Gary Jr) and also Hong Kong and a number of other countries.

He had no choice but to return to the UK.

He never had the opportunity.

Just been on the M1 today and stopped off at a service station. Went into Smiths and there on sale is a CD by Phil Spector.
Now I'm not defending Gary Glitter but why is his music unacceptable but Phil Spector's can be and is sold? Gary Glitter hasn't murdered anyone...
