"She denied appointing Savile". Don't doubt that for a second. She was never anything more than a junior health minister.

However, an NHS inquiry found that a senior civil servant, Cliff Graham, appointed Savile to the managerial role, and Currie retrospectively rubber-stamped the decision.
Ministers often "rubber stamp" the decisions of others.
