Why is this guy still held in the US? He's been sentenced to time served already but is yet to be released. As far as I'm aware he's committed no crime in England but was held here for 6 years without charge before his extradition.

He's never killed anybody, attempted to kill anybody nor planned to kill anybody. He just helped run a website that was involved in terrorist activities, from London, where the server just happened to be on US soil. This shouldn't in itself be enough to extradite someone imho. He's been treated awfully, especially given he's been diagnosed with Aspergers.

He's been in a United States prison for having his name authored to a document regarding US ship movements in 2001. That's it. His help re the website was focussed on the wars in Bosnia and Chechnya. He has committed no crime in the UK and never even been questioned regarding that document.

To make it clear, under UK law, he is guilty of no crime, just like you and I. He's been imprisoned (a lot of it in solitary confinement), since 2006. He was in prison for 7 years before making a plea bargain, admitting he provided 'material support to terrorists'. That was the document re US navel activities in 2001. He denies he knew this document was to be used for terrorist activities and, in fact, never was used or attempted to be used. He entered the plea bargain because the conditions were a maximum 15 year prison sentence which could be served back on UK soil. The alternative was life in prison with or without a trial. I think if you or I had been imprisoned without charge for 7 years in a foreign country, we might be forgiven for entering a plea bargain for something we'd not done.

The plea bargain system in the US would not happen here and is described as 'appalling' by Lord Carlile QC. Even Nigel Farage said in 2012 about this case, ?It?s not a fair judicial system and I think it is unlikely he will get bail due to this as I imagine they will make his stay as unpleasant as possible to make him plead guilty.?. If Nigel Farage has sympathy with a 2nd generation immigrant suspected of terrorist dabblings, you know something's not quite right.

This is far from justice.

Your Aspergers point re Susan Boyle is childish and ignorant. Aspergers Syndrome is a spectrum and we all fall on it somewhere. Every case is different. Some people you know could have Aspergers. It could range from someone at work who's just not very sociable and a bit quiet to someone who needs round the clock care.

And, for the record, Gary McKinnon who hacked into the US military's system (a far bigger crime than putting your name to a file about shipping movements), had his extradition halted because he was diagnosed with Aspergers. Too similar acts against the US military, done on UK soil, both by people diagnosed with Aspergers. One had his extradition blocked, the other did not. And, unlike Ahsan, McKinnock has broken UK laws with the hacking.

This is clearly not true. Before you start bleating about "being picked up on something for no reason", "being bullied", "being ostracised", please note the following Sam.

1. Essex Lad and I are simply disagreeing with your statement that we all fall within the spectrum of Aspergers syndrome.

2. We do not call your view "childish and ignorant" which is what you use in reply to Argie who makes a point about Aspergers.
