At about 12.30pm today I was waiting for a friend at St Pancreas station in London and Keith Vaz emerged from the train and headed for the ticket barrier. His ticket didn't work (I'm sure he had a legit ticket, many people's ticket don't work at the barrier) and the staff member let him through. He then walked right past me as I waited for my pal to emerge. This train had come from Leicester which I believe is his constituency, the same place my friend was coming from.
MP's go home for weekends and have their constituency surgery on Friday nights, they then spend the weekend at home and return, you would think anyway, to London for work ready for business first-thing on Monday. This would require coming back on Sunday evening to London, or very early on Monday morning. It would appear Vaz comes back at his leisure on Monday and would get to Westminster for about 1.00 or 2.00pm in the afternoon. It's alright for some: I wouldn't mind missing Monday morning at work (I had the day off today) and just turning up in the afternoon! Anyway, its good that he 'roughs it with the prols' on public transport and doesn't come back in a chauffeur driven car or plane.
I have mixed views on Keith Vaz and I was startled when he walked past me today in the station.

Sessions begin at 2.30 on mondays to allow members living at some distance to get there on monday rather than having to travel on sunday eve. Why should he have a chauffeur driven car? He's not a minister of state, nor even a member of the government. As for a plane....
Why were you surprised when he walked past you? Disappointed he didn't stop and ask how you were? More surprising was when he brushed past my breakfast table in the restaurant of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bucharest one morning last year. I learnt later he was part of party of visiting MPs looking into free movement within the EU; you know, that bit that allows us to visit, move to and work in any country within said block.

I though you couldn't stand the bloke, Max. I'm surprised that you didn't stop him. You could have made out that you were a Rumanian immigrant lost in St. Pancras station. That would have given Vaz the sort of photo op he loves.

Well, I learn a new thing every day, I was not aware of the sessions starting on Monday pm to give everyone a chance to get back in the morning - I assumed it was business from 9.00am Monday.
I was surprised to see him. I wonder if any of his constituents approached him on the train to ask him anything concerning things going on in Leicester or to do with business concerning his role as chairman of the Home Affairs select committee.
That's right, not only an MP but chairman of the Home Affairs select committee. It is for that reason I was thinking he might go around in a chauffeur driven car. Some people with money, title and priviledge go round the UK in a plane. I remember the rock star Noel Gallagher often used to fly to Manchester from London and back - might still do. Leicester to London, if you're a big knob politician might be something he would consider doing in a plane.

A few more from Europe come here than us lot going there, but that is another debate. I do believe we've all discussed such things on here previously, many times. Lol.

You are right, he certainly loves such things. He is very controversial, there's vast amounts of information about his alleged and confirmed wrongdoings all over the internet. Wikipedia is full of stuff about him and he is lambasted all over YouTube. I do wonder how he ended up as chairman of the Home Affairs select committee.

Can't stand Kevin Maguire but that is a good line.
Love the idea of a station being named after a part of the body.
Might check out Putknee, Hampstead Teeth, Earling, East Spleen...
