There are more Muslim women on the planet who don't get an education past 11 years old than there are people in the UK put together. She stands up for those women/girls and got shot in the head for her effort.

Despite her attempted murder, at 17, she's still fighting her corner. What does she have to do to deserve a Nobel prize in your honourable opinion? And name me another 16/17 year old in the world that stands for such a worthy cause despite the threats.

For what it's worth, I think the empowerment of women across the globe, and climate change, are the two most important thinks we should tackle in the 21st century. Women, in some countries, are treated as bad as black slaves 400 years ago. No rights, entrapped, unpaid and treated like livestock. I have no qualms in standing up against that......and if that means ridiculing certain religions, I'll do it willingly and enthusiastically.

I agree with you, Sam, Malala is a role model for disadvantaged women
worldwide, especially in Third World countries. She seems bright, serious,
committed. I wish her well. I would add, Essex Lad, that if you have the
faintest idea, which you clearly don`t, of what Malala has had to overcome
in Tirah and her Afridi homeland or the awful reactionary oppression of that
male dominated society, you might applaud more her courage and integrity.
