When is an apology not an apology?

Post by Sam Slater »

I have a friend of a friend who's had a little falling out with someone. Don't really want to go into details but one of them won't talk to the other unless the other apologises (or something).

Anyway, the guy that needs to do the apologising has said "I have no problem with apologising to you and I hope in return you apologise to me." That's all well and good but the other guy says that just saying 'I have no problem apologising' isn't really an apology in itself. I tend to agree and told my friend so. But what do the forumites think?

I mean, if I had no problem apologising to someone, I'd just apologise rather than waste time saying 'I have no problem apologising'. That's a bit silly and you're just doing a merry dance around actually doing it. Am I crazy? What do you all think?

I'm posting this as I think it's a safer subject than ISIS. Some people don't want to talk about ISIS.

"Some people don't want to talk about ISIS."

To be precise, no-one wants to spend much time talking about ISIS to you. Largely because you are not remotely interested in other people's views apart from them giving you a platform to blather on about your obsession with Islam.

Now we could believe that you are hanging on our every word:

1. Argie who you have called a cunt in the past and obviously regard with complete contempt..
2. Max who you have called a thick cunt in the past and who you patronise.
3. Me who you are so terrified of you cannot respond to my points.

but I don't think , somehow that you are interested at all in what we think, do you?

Can't believe David's attacking me again. It's getting a little bit personal and nasty imho.

It sounds like a non-apology apology, a bit like the classic political non-denial denial.

"I have absolutely no problem apologising to you for any perceived insult. In return I would expect you to apologies for your 2 month non-stop campaign of insult and vilification that you subjected me to e.g. dishonest, slimy, disingenuous, using Middle Eastern deaths as entertainment rather than being genuinely saddened by them etc. etc. etc"

If you can't understand this, try using a dictionary.

I don't know about you guys, but if I had no problem apologising to somebody, I'd just apologise. It would be the decent thing to do.
