Come on Scotland..

...and vote Yes!

Forget the economics of it, you won't be much worse/better off like both sides will have you believe. Vote yes to control your own destiny and to show Wales, NI and the rest of England outside the M25 how you can shake up the classist, Westminster elite.

Up to now I've been in favour of a 'No', solely because I thought Scots would be worse off going it alone and for sentimental reasons having been through things together for 400 years. I still have those feelings but after seeing Cameron, Miliband and Clegg get on their knees promising things they'd never have promised a few months ago I see things a little differently. They're shitting themselves and it's people turning their backs on them that's doing it. If they can start promising more powers and bucket loads of cash just because of one little 51%-49% poll in favour of 'Yes' then it just shows they could have done it all along and were just taking you for granted. If the rest of the UK can grow some balls and get woken up out of their stupor, then it's got to be a good thing for us all - and I think Scotland walking away might just get people's attention.

I think now, for the first time, I'll be a little disappointed if, as expected, it's a narrow 'No' result.

I realise that you won't reply to my post until I have agreed with your views, so I post this for the benefit of other forumites.

Can you please respond to the following points for the benefit of other forumites?

1. "Vote yes to control your own destiny"

How on earth can you "control your own destiny" by voting? I voted for Labour in 1979 and got 18 years of Tory rule. Is that "controlling my own destiny"? Maybe Blackpool should be independent? Oh no, that wouldn't work either because the area has one Tory MP. Maybe my street should be an independent state? Oh no, that wouldn't work.....etc. etc. IN short you cannot "control your own destiny in any meaningful way by voting. Sometimes your side gets elected. Sometimes it doesn't. Ask a Scottish Lib Dem or Labour Scottish Assembly voter.

2. "If they can start promising more powers and bucket loads of cash just because of one little 51%-49% poll in favour of 'Yes' then it just shows they could have done it all along and were just taking you for granted."

What bucket loads of cash have they promised exactly?

3. "I still have those feelings but after seeing Cameron, Miliband and Clegg get on their knees promising things they'd never have promised a few months ago"

Maybe I have got mixed up but weren't you very, very, very keen on Nick Clegg a couple of years ago despite him stabbing his activists and every student who voted for him in the back?

The way Nick Clegg stabbed students in the back, is that an example of how voters can "control their own destiny" by voting for someone of their choice and give them a clear mandate?

"Islamophobia: A word created by fascists and used by cowards to manipulate morons." - Christopher Hitchens"

Not really. Neither is homophobia.

Have you been at the Irn Bru and Drambuie Sam? Hate to tell you but there is more to England than London. This narrow minded and plainly ignorant view is the kind of cack being put out by the SNP aka Salmond Narcism Party...and now I'll finish my Tunnocks (all major suppliers in England btw)...

I've no idea what you're talking about with the 'London' reference, Arg. Do explain.

And as for my ignorance.......well, I kinda implied in my post that I've no idea how much better off/worse off Scottish people will be if they leave the UK. But at least I know my ignorance. Do you know better? Again, please tell.

Why are you so upset with my post? Don't you want Scottish people to run Scotland?

Come on Scotland. Tories wiped out your industry and Labour took you for granted. Tell them both to sod off.

Its 9.50pm and the polls close in 10 minute's time. All news networks have been banned from reporting any of the campaigning today, until the polls close, so the news at 10.00pm may well reveal some interesting things not being reported earlier. It is incredible to think that after hearing about this for the last two years we are now in the final minutes. I predict the union remaining, the 'no' lot winning by 2 or 3 percent and things carrying on as they always have been. The 'yes' crowd will be disappointed.

Things won't carry on as before, regardless. Scotland will get more money and powers, as will Wales.

More money and powers? The 'more power' bit sounds reasonable, but not the 'more money'. If they reject independence more power should be devolved down to them, and as that would include tax raising powers then they can run their own accounts to a greater extent than now - and increase taxes north of the border to raise more money if needed. Would be unfair on everyone else if Westminster gave them more money and they were further subsidised by everyone else. What is the point of giving them tax raising powers if London will just pump more money into Scotland when they run short?
