Hoots mon and jings and crivens.......less status than a Diamond League meeting and to think they were once seen as one down from the Olympic games...

I would be watching, but I have been doing some decorating - and watching the paint dry is far more interesting.

Poor man's Olympics.

I see that a diet of Quorn has done for Mo Farah.

Can't say I have watched much. I've been too busy making the most of the brilliant weather.

What I would say is that when I spent a day at the Ethiad Stadium in Manchester in 2002 when it fulfilled the role of Commonwealth games athletics stadium I had a fantastic day. Great vibe, great competition. My only regret was that I didn't get tickets for every day in the stadium.

As for the people that say it doesn't have the status of the Diamond League or Olympics, err, there is an obvious reason for that isn't there? Ok, so it doesn't have the best in the world in every event, but so what? It is still people proud to represent their own country in competition. and there are many great, world class competitors involved.

The people who decry it are the same bread heads who miraculously stop supporting Man Utd one year and the start making out they supported City all along. Or you see people from Blackburn wearing Real Madrid shirts.

Pathetic!

I watched the latter half of the mens triathlon and a bit of boxing during lunch today.

I guess it depends on whether you're into the sport or not. No need to knock it. It still has quite a few Olympic medal winners competing.

I dont really see the point of it...what does it mean to be Commonwealth champion? Its just a random set of countries forming a sort of political union. You might well have a 'Games' for countries whose names begin with the letter 'S' or the Games of countries whose names are formed of seven letters...or something just as random! I mean there is no USA, Russia, China, France, Germany or Japan or anything so I don't really understand the point? I cant get excited about it, and have you noticed how all of the star names who could have entered, such as Mo Farrah and Usain Bolt picked up "injuries" that prevented them from partaking...come on...even they cant be bothered! Waste of time!

You looking for logic in sport? What is wrong with you?

See Pan-American, Asian, Island, Highland games etc. etc. for reference.

David Johnson Gold medallist in egg and spoon race, age 11 years 3 months. Runner up with Billy Johnson in the wheelbarrow race.

I was a sporting prodigy!

Must have been some dodgy dealing...a white bloke won the Marathon...or were the top African runners somewhere else training for more lucrative races?

Yeah, some people tried to devalue my gold in the egg and spoon race by saying John James who was a faster runner than me was on holiday in London at the time.

Didn't stop me being made up.
