Both are different names for the same thing. It is a newsgroup not a website. I am not the best person to explain how to access news groups, but it isn't hard if I could do it. Apart from anyhting else precise details and terminology of how to go about it will vary with the software used. If some expert could give a simple general explanation, I'm sure Phil would put it in the FAQ at some point.
There's also of course the manual or help on the toolbar of your software.

this is the best site on the net for brit info and queries by some distance. actually, make that a considerable distance. the concern is that it might end up being a victim of it's own success and become too much of a burden for those whose efforts have made it what it is!

Yeah, the televisionx www site is pretty crap (last time I was there) - typical commercial porn site. But I think our questioner was asking, rather, about the usenet newsgroup alt.fan.televisionx - which is quite a different kettle of fish.
