judgment in the wake of Jimmy Saville.....such nonsensical moralising,
40 years or more after the events - when viewed calmly - is about as
silly as things get.

I hope when they arrested Freddie Starr for the 4th time this week, they had more to go on than "she said", otherwise this Yewtree and associated witch hunt is seriously going to damage the whole business for people who genuinely have been assaulted.

What do you reckon? It seems the only way to get a conviction these days is if the celeb is daft enough to have downloaded dodgy pictures...

it's complete and utter madness. After the Savile debacle the police and the cps are now trying to redeem themselves by retroactively imposing onto the past what is deemed 'acceptable' and 'unacceptable' by todays standards, trying to get some easy convictions so as to make it look like they're "taking victims seriously". As DLT said himself in his evidence, if everyone who had pinched someone's backside in the '70s got sent down, half the population would be in prison. and like Peter says, this witch hunt (because that is what it is) is in danger of damaging real victims.

They're not getting convicted (except Stuart Hall who coughed to it) because after 30 or 40 years there cannot possibly be any credible evidence in such cases. you can't have a conviction based soley on "he said she said", and rightly so. That's not justice - that's a vindictive woman's charter.

After reading Jim Davidson's lawyers account of events, I still couldn't believe they were actually running Yewtree on the basis of an allegation with no other evidence.

I couldn't believe that they were operating a 'guilty until proven innocent' but it seems so far, thats exactly what they are doing.

He claimed that statements from 'victims' were being taken at face value and as absolute truth, and even when challenged with fact from the defence, nothing was done.

One such claim was that the girl said she was assaulted in the upstairs bar of a certain theatre. When the defence pointed out that that theatre had neither a bar or an upstairs, the police solution was to ask the girl if she wanted to correct her statement. Unbelieveable.

A total overreaction to the Savile affair, which looks like backfiring spectacularly.

The jury could not agree on two of the charges made against DLT.

As a result, there will be a retrial. So it goes on and on for DLT without any break. Presumably he will not be able to work once again with these cases still hanging over him.

after the Jimmy Savile fiasco and William Roache getting off, it seems to me that the CPS are desperate to nail the Hairy Cornflake, hence a retrial on the two remaining counts. I still can't see how there can be any evidence beyond 'he said she said', particularly in the case of older allegations of this nature.

never mind, at least the lawyers on both sides will be coining it in again.
