Having 'the last word' on the forum...

This has been mentioned a couple of times over the recent while - about how some people like to have the last word on threads on this forum. The trouble is if people don't continue to reply to each sub-post then it will seem like the question/point just posed has been ignored. So, what to do chaps?

Good point Max.
A typical example is Bernard72. And there are a number of posters who operate in exactly the same way. I post. He makes a point or asks a question in a response to me. I have the courtesy to reply. Typically he doesn't reply and then moans about me having to have the last word.
Priceless! Maybe it is better just to ignore his post. Then he will probably moan about me not having the guts to reply to him.

I prefer to have the first word. Wasn't first on this topic though

I think the best thing to do on the forum is for everyone to keep replying if they feel there is something new to say. If the last poster seems to have covered everything, and the topic seems now to be concluded, then the next person could just say "I agree" or "Good point" and leave at that - basically two words. That means that although someone has effectively had the last word, as they are typing something new in addition to what someone else has said, they are basically not adding anything new - therefore the previous post was kind of the last word. It's a tricky one though, people are bound to feel the need to come back and therefore can be accused of "always wanting to have the last word". Not doing that and it seems like the last post was ignored.

First and last word can be good, so long as the last word isn't the last word for the last word's sake.

"so long as the last word isn't the last word for the last word's sake."
This cannot be true, can it, Max? When you make a post in a thread, you have no idea that it is going to be the " last" word. Some one may reply or they may not. Based on your perception their "last" word may add nothing, but to the poster it might be a very valid point.
So for example, some BGAFD posters make one post challenging your views, you reply and they might never ever reply to your post.
Whereas some like a discussion and can respond over multiple posts.

I think David is being ironic here. Ironically, I've 'guzumped' him (as at 20:25, 22/1/14).
