Watched the third episode of Sherlock on the Beeb last night.
Cracking stuff, Gromit.
Intelligent, well written, brilliantly acted crime thriller.
On the iplayer for awhile.

Re: Sherlock
Utter bollocks written by a lefty batty boy who obviously has not read any of Conan Doyle's superb books. Sherlock Holmes is a detective who solves crimes and mysteries. Watch the old ITV Jeremy Brett adaptations.
Mark Gattiss and Moffat have ruined Dr. Who and now they have made what should a thrilling detective story into a soap opera. I shall continue with The Bridge on BBC4 which is, strangely enough, a detective story....

Fair enough I will add this to your other perceptive reviews.
"Francis Bacon, batty boy artist who painted crap pictures of the Pope. Looks nowt like him"
"Robert Mapplethorpe, batty boy photographer, photographed flowers and other batty boys. How appropriate. He was crap too"
"Thomas Hitzlsperger. crap, batty boy, German footballer. Used to play for Aston Villa. Shite at running because his shorts were too tight. He wasn't a leftie so he wasn't all bad."
!wink!

Re: Sherlock
Quite a remarkable piece of TV. What was particularly magnificent about it was just how fucking hard Moffat had worked to spring a fresh surprise every five minutes. Talk about doing a job properly. If only all drama, on telly, at the flicks, exhibited that level of care and love -- to really, really, really get it right.
I looked at my watch at 9 and realized that it had been on for only half an hour. In a good way. I was expecting it to be later than that, they'd crammed so much entertainment in already.
There were tons of shots in it, tons of edits. It was packed with hard work and money. Telly really has come a long way.

Re: Sherlock
It was a crime thriller without much of a crime, well until the end. A take on His Last Bow, Mark Gattiss obviously has read the stories because there was much in there that only someone who had read the books properly would know ? AGRA, for example.
However, we still don't know for sure how Sherlock survived jumping off the rooftop, how Moriarty managed to survive after his head was blown off in the last series and could have done without the gay kiss between Holmes and the Napoleon of Crime.
Having said that, it was a good series but not perhaps up to the first two.

I agree with much of this. I thought Episode 1 was a bit too much "up it's own backside" in terms of making a programme about itself e.g. the "death" of Sherlock in the previous series.
Episode 2 was better, but Sunday night's offering was by far the best of the three in my opinion.
You are absolutely right that the writers are familiar with the original Conan Doyle stories. Sunday's episode was based on a short story and updated to the digital age.
Anyway, good stuff.
