The Salford Cockneys were silent in our office this morning. Bliss.

I had my doubts when the announcement of Moyes as the new manager was made. It was as if Ferguson was looking for a younger version of himself to take over - Scottish working class from the school of hard knocks.

If we look at what happened at Everton under Moyes - no trophy and by no means the richest Premier League club, but not the poorest.

Compare with Wigan under Martinez - a Championship side punching well above its weight in terms of getting into the Premiership, very limited funds/attendance and end up winning a trophy.

Supporters of Fergie's choice will argue that Fergie didn't do particularly well in his early years at United but let's face it, United were near the bottom of the League when Fergie became manager.

Moyes has taken over a championship winning side and after a third of the season with the same players, they are mid-table and 12 points behind the leaders.

It ain't looking good.

Big difference between Fergie and Moyes is that Fergie had already won things while managing in Scotland, punching above his weight.

He had won the Scottish league and also a European competition.

Moyes had 11 years to win something at Everton and failed to do so.

When you think that Wigan and Swansea won the two domestic cups last year, for Moyes to not win either of them once in 11 years (with a decent Premiership team) shows his lack of a "winning" mentality.

The other problem is that "big teams" need "big managers" to attract "big players".

Any player given the choice of gong to Man U, Chelsea or Arsenal at the moment is going to choose Chelsea or Arsenal as both their managers have won things (though in Arsenal's case it was a few years ago).

I fear another transfer window flop coming on for Moyes....Football is a fickle game, players more so. I wonder if the Glazer's bank loans will be up for negotiation soon?
