I love the French....sometimes

I don`t know if other viewers of this site saw this bit of news over the weekend, but the French Government is considering making soliciting prostitutes (and prostitution itself) a crime.
This follows a trend - Sweden made it a crime in 1999 and in fact you can go to prison there now if you ask a woman for sex ! So much for the days of the "Swinging Sixties" !
But - astonishingly - French female celebrities have joined a major protest to protect prostitutes and the rights of men to have sex with them. They include the actress Catherine Deneauve, who starred as a hooker in the famous movie, "Belle du Jour", the daughter of actor Gerard Depardieu, and even a leading French feminist, Elizabeth Badinter, who has called the proposed law "wrong....it is a declaration of hatred for male sexuality". Well good for her !
With ruddy Cameron trying to hit the porn industry, I applaud the French who, apart from lovely grub, have always had a sensible attitude to sex ! Its looking as if the proposed new law will fail. Vive la France !

Even if prostitution was made illegal in France it would still happen as it does in the vast majority of countries in the world. As for soliciting i assume you are talking about street prostitution.
There is no need to bother women on the street when you can phone them or email them from the comfort of your own home, if you are that way inclined.

Banning prostitution is like trying to ban breathing. Just won't happen.

The oldest profession in the world, no chance of banning it, and it makes for a good business model, you have it, you sell it and you still have it to sell again...!wink!

Oh my fellow Brits, how I love thee ! Cockney, Arginald and Planet. I admire your attitude to prostitution. In view of the number of girls in Brit Porn who do "private" work your response is understandable....But please - take a flight to Stockholm and try and find a hooker in the city (NOT just on the streets). The very act of asking her for sex is a criminal offence and now subject to a prison term !! That's a fact ! Your immensely dull reply, CockneyGeezer, that one does not need a streetwalker and can use the web etc to book a girl, shows you never spent much time in Paris. Until relatively recently one of the best free shows in the world was to walk down the Rue St Denis from the Grand Boulevards where classic whores - all stiletto heels, seamed stockings and poodles - would stand about twenty paces apart on both sides of the street almost to Les Halles (more than a mile). The French have always had a joie de vivre about sex, whereas one can rely on the Brits to make it dull as ditchwater. Lets all go dogging in a grubby car park or choose an escort off the web where the pictures are so photo-shopped they bear no relation to the girl !! Imagination in sex was never a British virtue it seems.....

"CockneyGeezer, that one does not need a streetwalker and can use the web etc to book a girl, shows you never spent much time in Paris.".
Correct and I did say for those inclined.
Why would i want ask a grubby crack street whore for sex? French or otherwise. Looking is ok but asking and paying?? It's all personal taste.

This is incorrect I believe. The draft bill does not make prostitution illegal. If passed, it would mean that anyone who pays for or seeks to pay for sex could be fined, but the seller of the service would be in the clear.
