Broadcaster John Cole dies aged 85

The broadcaster died in his sleep at his home in Surrey
Former BBC political editor John Cole has died aged 85.
Cole was the BBC's chief reporter during the Thatcher era, and became a popular face on TV and radio, covering major stories including the miners' strike and the Brighton bombing.

His broad Ulster twang used to drive me mad, but he was a fair-minded political commentator, and a nice bloke by all accounts.

One of the best.
I remember his pronunciation of the word "now" as "Nye". Annoying but remembered!!.

Well of course he was fair. It might have had something to do with him being deputy editor of the Guardian, as well as working for the Observer, for many years before joining the BBC in 1981.
