Galloway to stand for London mayor...

Britain's most ubiquitous backbencher George Galloway is apparently going to stand for London mayor. As he loves the limelight, wants to be interviewed on TV news programmes and debate shows as much as possible, this is an ideal opportunity for him. I think it costs ?10,000 to stand as a candidate, I've always felt they charge this much to stop all the cranks who stand in by-elections from doing so (that costs only ?500, I believe). A Labour person said today that there is no chance of Galloway winning, this is true, but he could split the Labour vote - thus giving the Tory, who I assume will be Boris, more chance of becoming Mayor. It's funny how politics works: the people who don't win, but by their standing pull others away from someone else who is a serious contender, means that another contender, from the other side, does win.

You forgot to mention that the election uses the supplementary vote system, which completely destroys your reasoning.

Granted some of his views are unpleasant amongst which his Muslim vote fervour but you cannot deny that he is a great parliamentarian and can hold his own and overcome with a passion that is lacking from the majority of career politicians.

How many can stand before a anerican senate hearing and tear them a new a-hole?

Also as a London major he would stand for the people rather than the square mile parasites.

Galloway would be a better candidate for Mayor IMO than Livingstone. He would be more popular with Labour voters than Livingstone last time out.

"A Labour person said today that there is no chance of Galloway winning".
Ken Livingstone i presume.

"He could split the Labour vote".
He may or he may not. Boris is popular because he funny and gives everyone a good laugh but will he be standing in the next London Mayoral election?

I suppose because they didn't want an opportunistic cunt like Livingstone running the city.
