I didn't /don't trust the good ol' US of A-holes before, during or after. But that's exactly what informs foreign policy - across all nations - (mutual) suspicion!

Every nation possesses their own foreign policy agenda - that's 'Realpolitik' - but (I assert) our 'Special Relationship' is just (mutually agreed) hokum.

It's that "special relationship" that's helped destroy our nation and any respect it had across the globe.

Indeed, it is more of a "prison special relationship" where bowling ball bag bob keeps us safe from all the the other male rapists so he can rape us repeatedly.

This is of course with the total revisionist approach to the USA and their sterling "shoulder to shoulder"approach in both world wars.

No, I don`t !! Trust went out the window with Nixon and was reinforced
by the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" nonsense.
Let me explain what is going in the minds of the US foreign policy hawks.
They are terrified of the Iran scenario (and North Korea) - of rogue states
with nuclear weapons, or the power to hurt America. By toppling Assad in
Syria they would (I) send a clear message to these rogue regimes that
the USA is powerful (2) Get intelligence, probably covert CIA ops and
weapons, along with maybe troops on the ground (later) all nice and close
to thwack Iran in the next few years.
Obama is in a tricky position since to back down, after he thought lapdog
Cameron would muzzle British opposition and make sure British lads did
some of his dirty work, makes America look weak. He has no option but a
limited military strike and some loud growls.
Just view it in terms of long-term realpolitik - like a foreign relations assessor - and it all becomes clear as day.
